I've just had a quote of £40 shipping to send a quantity of paint and varnish from here (UK) to Portugal. It seems worthwhile to do this as I can't take such things on an aeroplane and they are quite hard to come by in the Algarve or are much more expensive than here. I also have the convenience of having them delivered to the Marina.
While I ponder this, I wonder what others do who no longer keep their boats in the UK.

A problem we are just starting to experience. I don't know but do peoples club together to pay for a job lot type of delivery ? or maybe hire a small van for a couple of days to drive to UK & back ? There are enough Brit boats on the Algarve so it might just be a matter of organising it. Could probably get a worthwhile discount as well.

Welcome to Portugal! May see you in Alvor.

I've used David Wright for the past twenty years d.wright@mail.telepac.pt

Stick them in hold luggage, well sealed.

Definitely a NO NO !!!!!!! If you have ever seen how hold luggage is shaken and stirred in the auto baggage handling you will see this
is the easiest way to make a lot of enemies on your flight and others ! It also does not comply with airline rules:o

I've never had a problem leaving the UK. I've taken oil, paint, acetone, lifejacket cylinders ...

This poster is not impressed. I don't want my or anybody else's luggage covered in paint. I am not keen on an explosion either, perhaps triggered by an electrical problem (Dreamliner......) Which airline do you use? I might wish to use a different one and be more than happy to pay £40 for my life.
