When I was looking to purchase a boat in Croatia I could not find anything about the broker that was advertising it. There is one post on here but the poster has only 2 posts to his name, one to praise Selymar and one that just says 6 knots, in response to a how fast do you cruise thread. Hardly enough to give confidence.

I know I had significant doubts in my mind as to whether this was a real outfit but I have to say I have just completed the deal on a Sealine F43 and got the boat back to the UK

The set up out there is the main Brokers are all Boatshed type operations selling from the owners berth, there is also virtually no such thing as exclusivity on brokerage so the boat will probably be advertised with multiple sellers, from what I found these were very different.

Selymar Yachts is a well established family business that sells either motor or sail across Italy, Turkey, Greece and Croatia. they are based in Split, Croatia and although I can only speak from my personal experience both Mark Zamanis and his wife Sofia have been absolutely exceptional.

Both speak good English, Sofia especially so, they have answered emails promptly, answered phone calls at times that they would have had every right to ignore, helped with all the paperwork associated with a Croatian Purchase, including personally accompanying us to the Harbour masters office and negotiating on our behalf to get the transfer of a Vingette sorted out. They even brought us dinner that night and would have nothing of my insistence to pay. They are also responsible for one of the most accurate brokers descriptions I have seen.

They do not charge the buyer commission (something that is quite common in Croatia) and the only money they ever hold is the deposit, which is also their commission, so they are never holding funds that are actually for the purchase of the boat, you pay this to the owner direct.

Fortunately I did not have to request the return of the deposit but my impressions are that if it had been necessary then there would have been a high probability that it would have been returned.

After dealing with Selymar I would have no issues in recommending them and if I am ever looking for a boat again I will personally ring Mark or Sofia to ask what is available.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Mark and Sofia for their help.

Hi Ian, does that mean it all went smoothly and you got the F43 back to Slovenia safely?

Hi Mike, Yes all went well, few minor teething issues but Croatia to Slovenia all good and what a cruising ground that is, Mali Lozinge was lovely, as was Rovinj where the Red Bull air race was in town.

Bought her back from Amsterdam on Friday as well.

Thanks for your help with all that, much appreciated.

Thats great news, Ian. Good luck with the new boat in the UK. As you know I think you've got a good buy there
