I have the opportunity to purchase a SELVA 15 HP o/b (new, but at a good price) and wondered if anyone would offer an opinion as to SELVA reliability (positive or negative). Many thanks.

To be frank, and call a spade a spade, they are IMHO truly horrid. Heavy, ancient engineering, rough, etc etc. You will find spares and back up relatively difficult. The engineering is light years behind say a Mercury.
If the price is exceptional it may be worth it of course. I would think they would need to offer it about 50-60% x the equivalent Mercury/Yamaha price to begin to look worthwhile. When comparing prices, make sure the Selva is heavily discounted against the DISCOUNTED price list of 2-stroke Mercury/Yamaha etc, not the LIST price, as there is a big difference. To get probably the most competitive price on a Mercury or Yamaha try Barnet Marine www.ribs.co.uk.
