Does anyone here own one?

I'm interested in their single cylinder 9.9hp engine as it looks like it will fit in my existing well. There seems to be a uk distributor for these engines, and so was wondering if anyone had any experience with one.

I would say definitely don't go there! I had a Selva - after sales service non-existent - spares very difficult to get hold of. Buy a Japanese one and you'll know you have after sales service, spares, and a re-saleable outboard. Buying a Selva is little better than buying an unknown Chinese...

I had a 25 hp Selva in the 1980's - it always cut out if it was on tick over for more than a couple of minutes. This was because it was consuming more fuel than the fuel pump could supply, even with a new fuel pump. It always happened when we were sat in a lock - the gates would open and the engine died! I solved the problem by fitting an SU 12 volt pump in the line and switched it on when we were in that situation.

Try and find a second hand 9.9 Evinrude (2 stroke) Brilliant outboard. Its actually a de-tuned 15hp engine as when there was a demand for 9.9 engines it was cheaper to de-tune an existing engine than make a new one.
Mine was 20 years old when I sold it and was running perfectly.
And would weigh less than a new 9.9 4 stroke.
Re Selva Outboards. In the 1970's there was a Boatyard Group called Ladyline who sold Selva Outboards and I was told that neither Evinrude/Johnson/Mercury would supply them so they had to get a "third world Outboard"
They could have improved ?

I had a 15hp about 15 years ago. Totally reliable, quiet, and plenty of hrust. BUT: getting spares' even a shear pin was a total nightmare. Off the water for weeks, even months even for service parts, so it had to go. I heard that later engines had seriousquality control issues too.
