Hi all,

OK, I know it has been said before but I need help on selling my fathers and I's sailing boat. We have advertised it on YBW.com, in PBO and on Boats and outboards. The price is spot on, condition great and a good value well known boat (Jeanneau Sun Odyssea 24.2 at £20k).

The question is that as it is based on a trailer in Blackpool (up north) is this the issue. We are not currently through a broker as have not felt it neccessary. So far the only people looking at it have been tire kickers who wanted to see the ultimate trailer sailer! They were then surprised by the size of it! Yes it can be trailled as it is on a trailer, but not for the weekend!

So what do we do next? The boat is in no hurry to sell but my Dad has his eye on a mobo so that he can take my old Grandma with him as she lives with them and they do not want to leave her behind. Later on he will return to sail in the Med.

So please is it the location which is an issue, and if so which brokerage companies based in the south are the best.

I am a lot better at selling MOBO's

Thanks a lot

I can only recommend a local broker who sells this size of yacht and up..
Clarke & Carter at Levinton Marina near Ipswich. Also has a branch at Burnham yacht harbour
They have free hard standing outside their office and a secondhand yacht fair in October. See their web site clarkeandcarter.co.uk for more info.

Though I suspect somewhere on the south coast would get more viewings, specially around the time and in the vicinity of the Southampton boat show, with a number of yards & brokers having their own sales at the same time.

having similar trouble with my duette. its got a road trailer, but its not suitable for a quick weekend trip. plus, lots of people phone from the south, find out where it is and are put off when they find out how far it is from them to me. I'm going to take mine through to preston marina after the season, they seem to have a high turn over and they're close to the motorway etc.

We have used preston marina before to sell a leisure 20. They gave great service but it took 6 months to sell. Would happily put it there again but feel southcoast a better bet. Just need a decent broker with hard standing near southampton! Any recomendations?

Cheers

just out of interest paul has anyone looked at your boat, the reason i ask is a friend at roa island advertised his boat wednesday and sold by friday, i think it depends on the boat the price and any history of damage (maybe)!!!

To be honest, for a 24.2, 10 years old, no inboard or spinny and asking the thick end of 2K extra for the trailer, I don't think the price is spot on.

Maybe it is slightly overpriced?

Av price for sale with diesel Inboard is £24,500, average price of Outboard is £19,500. ( I have been tracking them for a while).

Then again everyone knows the price is a guide. It is a 1997 build but not commisioned until 1998 and has never been raced or used on the sea. For this reason the condition is very good.

As for the Trailer.....we have been offered £1600 and these are easy to sell, but need to keep the boat on it for now. Very few are actually sold with the trailer as it cost £2750 new and has been used 5 times and never got wet!

Cheers for the heads up on price, will review again. I fancy sending it to the moodys Boat Show as they seem to sell well there.

Cheers
