selling my nimbus 2600 has anyone any views on private sale or broker

Bit of both wouldn't hurt. Put a load of good pics into a free ImageShack account, do a good write up and stick it on the free boat listing sites, linking to the ImageShack pics. You can also put it with a broker, he can also use the same pics.

If it's sensibly priced, a listing on Ebay might do the trick.

How close to the boat are you, and are you still using it? I think a broker can have extra value if it saves you alot of wasted car journeys showing punters. It also depends on whether you want shot of the boat, or are happy to spend months and months to get a (possible) better price. Guess you need about 10pct better price to pay the broker.
If you want shot of it, look at ebay, but check those selling (NOT lisiting) fees first.

Hi im just in the same position myself wondering how to market my boat and if who with.

Reason im saying that is a friend has tried to market his turbo 36, admittedly at absolute top money and not had one person look at it.

He then showed interest in an F43, the broker selling that then listed his boat at 99k but no takers so he rang the broker willing to drop 10k to gain some interest, the broker told him not to as nothing in that price bracket and age is selling.

He then list with another broker in Chichester, had 1 viewing but punter not really that interested, then was promised another viewing but punter never turned up.

Tried to contact the broker but no replies via email and no returned calls, all not very good IMHO so moral is have a go yourself, then sound out who you think may be a good bet.

Id try jaykay marine sales, or one of the larger brokers though id say you will get more personal attention from a smaller company.

All IMHO though, lets wait and see how I get on.

Brokers don't do anything for their money, ridiculously high charges for little effort. Couple of pictures on a website, and reluctantly take someone on a whistlestop tour of your pride and joy and then want to charge thousands...............

Nah, just a bit of lighthearted humour really!!! I had a chat with Brian earlier today and we joked about the pro's and con's of brokers and some of the stick they get from time to time on this forum.

Most brokers work bloody hard.........

By the way computer experts how can I get to use the smiley's?? They only appear at the end of the Title box rather than within the Message box...have I got a wrong setting somewhere?

I think it depends a bit on the type of boat too. We sold our MF 625 privately last year and we bought our current boat privately too. Both transactions went very smoothly and there were no problems. It's definitley worth listing it on some of the free or cheap sites like Appollo Duck etc. a link to pictures as suggested by P G is good too. Ebay is definitely worth a go, you'll get your ad to more folk on there.
If I was going to use a broker I'd go down the Boatshed route, they're quite aggressive in their marketing and seem to be very proactive and helpful.
Good luck with the sale!

we just recently listed ours with a few agents, inc boatshed, yacht market and a few others....2 weeks later no leads.

Placed a classified ad on Ebay, sold within a week for more or less full asking price (ad cost just £13 which is better than the agents 8% of the sale!)

Personally I always use the boats and outboards web site, and have had a good response, minimum price £10. The other site is findafishingboat.com and they are also cheap, they have a section for private boats worth a go and can save you a lot of money. Any money saved is a bonus and could mean the difference between getting the boat you next want or getting something not quite what you wanted. A friend recently sold their beneteau through these sites and were very pleased, but were also told that sales of any boats at the moment are slow due to the recession.?

on ebay

thanks for all the advice now put on ebay classifieds listing number 190418923231

Don't be too quick to write off brokers as a waste of time and money.

Not all sellers have the temperament to carry a deal to a successful conclusion.
I've seen too many fall over because the seller becomes emotional and insulted, sometimes over the most trivial thing, where a sensible third party can bring back balance to the table.

How and when do you call the potential purchaser back without sounding too desperate?

I'm not a broker, but witness quite a few transactions, and unfortunately, many attempted ones.
