Selling boat comments received...

looks quite cheap to me. I would remove at least half of your negatives at the bottom though - there's no reason to mention the cushions on a boat like this at this value.

I agree - your boat looks perfectly reasonable. I suspect that Ebay has lots of browsers who are not really up to speed with things, the comment about outboards being dangerous is just plain daft. Good luck.

With respect. Your advert goes into too much detail. Your boat is (in my opinion) at the end of its useful working life. Lets face it, scrap yards are full of cars which could be repaired. You mention that you want a bigger boat. To get rid of this one I would be inclined to try and PX it against the boat you are after. Certainly who is going to buy an old boat that is afloat. To sell it needs to be on dry land. HOWEVER If I was trying to sell your boat I would start the advert off:- CLASSIC TRIDENT 24. Apart from the basic details, bilge keel, your ownership for 6 years, buying bigger, I would leave the rest out, (including the repair) Offer Further details. AND I would state that any offer over £2000 accepted.

Who on earth is going to be both selling the OP's likely next step up, and wanting to buy the boat he's selling? It's not like walking into a car dealership.

Pete

Just jokers trying to get even more money off it. It seems the Ebay way.

I bought my boat off Ebay but only because it was a few hundred less than on the other boat selling websites it was advertised on. The guy selling said he had the same kind of feedback as you have been getting.

Just gotta wait and see, some one will come along who actually wants her and rightly so too. Looks like a good boat that would make it home ;)

Having read your advert, my major question would be this

"Port Side has had major repairs prior to my owner ship, not visible in photos"

I would want to know what when and how it was damaged and repaired. Perhaps you should include a photo.

Otherwise that will probably be the first thing anyone asks when viewing her, and many may not like what they see and walk away.

Thats a nice looking boat, looks a little under valued to me.

(in my opinion), get over this cold snap and i'm sure it will sell quick

I have to say I disagree with jim@sea's comments, a capable owner could keep this boat going indefinitely, this is not a car.

I agree my eyebrows would raise at the 'damage' mentioned, is it something which shows, or a proper repair one should not be surprised by on a boat with a long career, what's 'major'? I suspect judging by your honesty elsewhere you may be overplaying this - I'd leave it until people are at least initially interested, then mention it and explain.

I also agree with others here that you give too much detail, especially negative stuff; while your honesty is commendable, it may be offputting; the time to mention details is when someone keen is on the phone having contacted you.

I'd ditch the mentions of cushions, corroding window frames, broken fairlead, tidy up...if people can't work out this is a 1969 boat going cheap, that's their problem !

She looks good value to me.

All these carping comments about outboards.
Completely irrelevant of course.

The boat has one. The vendor is not interested in people who aren't interested, but only in those who are interested.

Completely disregard negative comments.

..or respond "Thank you very much for your interest..."... drives 'em mad... :D

PS. Lovely looking boat...

If I didn't already have a boat I would definitely be asking for a viewing. This time last year I was looking for a cheap starter boat and a trident was on my list. I decided to go a little bigger, 26' foot, because all the smaller boats were neglected and manky. Your one looks tidy and clean.

I would take some photo with the salon area a little less cluttered. She looks like she's been cared for and you have done her proud but sometimes people think the opposite when fenders are not tidied down below.

"At the end of its life" Jim@sea....
What a load of keich yer talking. That looks like a great wee boat for a good price.
Some folks dont have the deep pockets you obviously have Jim...

Thanks for all the positive comments, I have tweaked the advert a little upon your suggestions. Probably still a little long winded and to honest...

I guess in finding the newer boat I went to see to many boats described in too glossy a term. Yes it was normally "thank you for your time" but then we said that to the broker after viewing the boat we bought!

We are not in a desperate hurry to sell, I just found some of the comments grating.

On my return I will de-winterize her put put the sails on her and make her ready for viewing and sailing, I will then take some more photos.

Once the rudder bearing is addressed as far as I am concern a lick of paint afew odd jobs and she will be ready for another 6 years, at very low running costs.

Looks like a lot of boat for the money you're asking. Recent motor, clean sails etc. What could you complain about?
I suppose the mooring costs will be a major consideration for someone at your price point.

I'm saving all mine for a book one day :D

But a recent classic was " We don't think the dog took to her"
We had many strange comments when we had the B&B.
My favourite was the woman who came to the door and asked for a card. I offered to show here the rooms and she said she couldn't " because my husband is facing the wrong way" and left.

I sold my previous boat on ebay. I started advertising at Christmas at £25k and initially had little response other than "will you take £12k" type of ones. Just ignore!
It picked up in late Feb/early March as far as I recall and in the end I sold for £23.5k - quite happy.
So don't give up yet, it's too early in the year I reckon!
On your ad I would personally delete all of the section headed "the other bits" except if it's an advantage (I don't know anything about these boats) to mention the mountings and shaft in case anyone would want to fit a new inboard?
I can never understand the bit about "poor or low feedback" - what does it achieve other than make you look difficult to deal with?
As mentioned already, interior photos could be better, but you have a nice main picture.
Otherwise a decent ad for a nice looking boat.
There is no one right way.
