Hello everybody. I have not posted here for a while so a Happy New Year to you all!

I have a question to ask but before I do, I want to reassure you that this is not a ploy to sell my boat on this forum (as I think it may appear to some).

I have a Dauntless, gaff cutter that I have had for approx one year and have really enjoyed.

The good news is that my partner and I have just learned that there will be a new addition to our family in 7 months time. I am delighted as this will be our first.

The bad news is that I have no option but to sell my little Dauntless due to the forthcoming financial commitments.

This is my first boat so it will also be the first time I have come to sell a boat and wondered what you reckon to be the best process. She is only going to be worth £4-£5K so putting an advert in a publication such as Classic Boat seems a bit overkill.

I am based in Falmouth so the location would seem right and I should be able to advertise her with a mooring on the Penryn River. A major bonus I would think.

Do you think I should go for local papers and/or a sign on the boat or would you say that a broker would be a better idea? I was thinking about ebay but boats don't seem to go for much from what I can see. Please let me know your thoughts.

In the mean time, I'll pop an advert onto the for sale part of this forum.

Thanks in advance. Alex

Congratulations on the newcomer!

Might well be worth trying the local yards, marinas and clubs. Try the word of mouth approach first. Most yards I've worked in have someone pop in most weeks "on the offchance". Worth a look, then maybe one of the cheaper monthly selling mags, or an online site.

Good luck, and enjoy August/September!

There are some websites where you can advertise for free

You can advertise for free on Sailing Today

I've sold a wooden dinghy twice on Boats and Outboards.
The same dinghy! Nothing went wrong with the first sale, I just bought it back the first time.
Both times I got a good price, reflecting it's real worth. (interestingly, I got the same price on each occasion, over a year apart)

As you're in Cornwall, there's a good "boats for sale" section in the local papers. Try the "West Britain" for example. There's not much in it this time of year, but wait a few months and there will be a couple of pages of boats for sail! I don't think it costs too much.

Hi,

I have advertised on www.reesmarine.com - it's free! Also why not try ebay - it is a fairly cheap way to reach literally millions! I would recommend an up to date survey as I was asked many times if the boat I was selling had one - it can make all the difference.

Best of luck, both with the boat and the little 'un!
