Selling a boat in parts?

Potential purchaser

When does the boat market pick up?
I really have little interest in keeping my Centaur much longer, it has been well kitted out in the past but the market seems dead for buyers.
It's crossed my mind to have the boat put on my drive and i could sell the parts? probably make more than the whole boat as one do people do this?

I must remember not to ever open a picture that is anything to do with bucket its full of ****.
Ok how much do you want for your Centaur I love Westerlys and also where is it at the moment. I am not making an offer because I have no idea what its worth so give me your best price Please.
Regards mike

The problem with the boat market at the moment is that sellers still have an inflated idea of the current value and refuse to sell at less than last years price.
Always been the same for boats at the lower end of the price scale.
Looking on ebay regularly I notice that the number of boats for sale has dramatically reduced and those on often don't attract any bids.
I don't know about Apollo Duck and Boats and Outboards as it's difficult to tell which have sold and which have just dropped off the site.

Suffice it to say, the market for older boats is pretty poor at the moment.

When does the boat market pick up?
I just had a scan through your pics. It looks very tidy and better than many up here in the Lakes. (Mainsail apart.) I know a guy who paid £9K for one as smart some time ago and hasn't managed to sell it for £6K more recently (although it is less smart now).

Problem is, I don't think the market will pick up. It's a discretionary spend and most people at this (lower) end of the market aren't spending on other than essentials.
It would be a shame to break it though.

Cheers once again all

The pics do reflect its condition, it is tidy and well cared for, it does need the odd bit of cosmetics here and there but it's got all the rights bits which give a great starting point for someone with more time to make her really nice.

Those that have pm'd me have been given a price which i think is a bargain, but if you see it and feel it isn't then just say.
It also has a well documented history and an abundance of equipment and spares meaning there wouldn't be much in the way of additional costs.

We only went sailing about 6 times last year due to family and work commitments so you can see why interest has been lost.

I'm suggesting £7k is the bottom price with everything onboard and a quick sale(to save all the haggling)

or a straight swap for a nice vw camper van or a large harley davidson

Can I suggest that a public forum isn't the best place to air your opinions on the "time wasters" who will inevitably show up? It is quite likely that they might be looking at the market now with a view to buying a boat next Spring, letting you store it over the winter! They will be thinking "plenty more if that one goes". If they pick up on your bad feelings then they certainly won't be coming back.

Having recently dismantled a wooden 26 footer i would say Never Again.Do not underestimate the time it takes to break a boat down and the mess it creates.Unless you have a heavy duty trailer and a means of lifting the keels to take to scrap merchant then you have a problem.Although in my case the cash generated from breaking the boat was more than its sellable value it took many hours work.If i had just given it away and worked overtime instead i would be more the richer plus moans from wife would have been less!would have thought someone might have £4000 for your centaur as thats probally what its component parts are worth.

7k seems a reasonable price for a Centaur in decent condition assuming it is in sail away condition with major items not in need of replacement for 2 or 3 years.

I would have thought that anyone looking for that kind of boat would take an interest in this one. Your buyer is out there somewhere.

Thanks all i think dismantling isn't going to be an option, just thinking how much room everything would take up.
I'll wait for the market to pick up, but can't see myself bothering with sailing next year.
