Is it ok to relaunch within a couple of hours of antifouling. I have not been able to find any advice online for Hemple Tiger Extra Antifouling but think it should be ok. I know sometimes the antifouling loses efficiency after being left out of the water too long but I am not aware of any detrimental effects if launching takes place immediately. Any advice would be welcome.

If you are using slings it you will need at least an hour to harden enough to resist the abrasion. I have rolled on Shogun AF paint where the pads are as the boat was being lifted and it was still there next year, not more than 10 mins drying time.

Hempels technical data sheet is here:

It states that the minimum time before immersion is 24 hrs. This is probably due to solvents contaminating the water rather than reducing the effectiveness of the antifouling. It is pretty usual though to paint any areas that were covered by the props just before launching, but I have found that they tend to be the first to erode too.

We use Optima, which also recommends an hour or two before immersion. This is a bit of a pain regarding the props but I usually contrive to antifoul on a weekday and get the yard staff to shuffle the props around. An alternative I might use would be to get the yard lads to put the boat in the hoist before their lunch hour and touch up the patches, leaving an hour for it to cure.

2 years ago the pad areas on my boat were antifouled about 5 minutes before immersion, in drizzle. At end of year no difference in hull condition on these small areas, and the paint was still stuck on. This year I had a good 10 dry minutes between painting the pads and launch, luxury....
