Why does my toilet always self drain? I have the valve set to discharge directly into the sea, and the valve itself is located higher than the toilet base. Its a leccy toilet, but I dont think that makes any difference?
Thanks.

Worrying in this area may cause it to reverse, THEN you will have need for concern. IMHO the quicker it dissapears the better. If you do want to retain it however, shut the seacock!

Me too!

Both my last boat and current boat do same. Both electric loos, but current one goes direct to holding tank with h/t pumping overboard with manual pump.

Doesn't seem to happen but wouldn't I get smells from holding tank coming up loo if no water trap?
Perhaps water trap there but lurking just out of sight?!

Re: Me too!

Nope...marine toilets don't need water traps. They're fitted with a one way valve called a joker valve instead....which, btw, should be replaced at least every two years.

In fact, a water trap would actually cause odor instead of preventing it, because sea water stinks something awful when it's allowed to sit and stagnate in summer heat between weekends aboard.
