Selden Gas Strut replacement

The Gas Spring on my Selden Rod Kicker has failed.
The plastic fitting on the piston end unscrews. On the cylinder end the plastic fitting rotates but doesn’t unscrew- How do I remove it?

I can’t help with your question I’m afraid, but when it comes to you replacing your failed gas spring, I’ve heard very good reports of these guys: Stainless Steel Gas Struts | Stainless Steel Marine Gas Shocks & Steel Gas Struts for Boat Hatches | SGS and they’re much cheaper than Selden branded struts; e.g. NitroLift Selden Rod Kicker Gas Strut

I think they can also re-gas existing struts.

It sounds like the metal insert within the plastic might be spinning.. However you get it off, I would replace those plastic end fittings..

Have a read of my comments in this earlier thread, especially try the link in my comments to the story warning about what can happen if the plastic part fails due to old age / brittleness..

Thanks for the replies. I need the gas spring and Selden end fittings. Boat is in Greece- I’ll buy the parts when back in uk.

I made the mistake of buying from SGS Engineering and will never buy anything from them again. The strut they sold me was faulty and their follow-up customer service was appalling.

I’ve since used Metrol for a gas strut and they have been much more helpful. Stainless Steel Gas Struts | Metrol Motion Control
I’ve no connection to either company.
