Selden boom

Yes, mine is an old Kemp boom from many years before the ones with guides appeared. I originally had small single blocks shackled back to back and later bought the purpose made double balance blocks. I have used the same system on two boats, with the same boom type, since 1992 and never once had a clash of blocks or any other problems.

Don't know this boom, but have you seen these documents from Selden?

If your boom/single line reef balance blocks are pre 2008, they have been changed.

I can see Selden design new sliders without wheels after 2008.Perhaps too much trouble with the previous sliders,mine is from2003.TH

You probably won't when you find out the price of these wheels, I got 8 as spares a couple of weeks ago before I opened the boom end to see what I needed and the price was eye watering, I'm still in shock and don't remember the exact price but it was something like £65.
Luckily I didn't actually need any and they are going back to the supplier this week for a refund

Hmm, maybe they are running out of stock or so. I cannot remember spending that kind of money on these silly rollers. 8 for 65 pounds sound like daylight robbery to me.

This is a very useful thread!
I have a Seldon Mast and Boom.
They date from about 2007/8 and the boom has single line reefing, I'm about to replace the reefing lines with Dyneema and the two sliding blocks make a horrible grinding sound as reef as taken in and shaken out.
I guess the slides don't have wheels and the track needs lubricating.
I'm going to have to take the end fitting off the boom to replace the reefing lines, so the links to the Seldon website are great and clearly show how the reefing lines are fitted, which will save me a lot of time.
But what's the best way to lubricate the slides? I'm tempted to run GT85 down from the end of the boom and hope that it'll reach the other end.
Anyone got any better ideas or tried to lubricate the sliding blocks?
 
GT85 is "dry" lubricant designed for bikes, especially chains, I think it is Teflon Based.

You spray it on and it appears as a very low viscosity liquid, after a few minutes the liquid flashes off and it leaves a dry coating.

Dyneema is low stretch (the main reason for changing), high strength, so I can use a smaller diameter rope, and because the fibres are inherently low friction, it handles small diameter sheaves better than most ropes.

Glad to hear it, as I plan to do exactly the same this winter :)

Only problem is finding somewhere I can buy specific lengths and colours of dyneema (I want to colour the reefs green - orange - red :D ) at a vaguely sensible price.

Mine all came from an Ebay trader. Buying specific lengths and colours from a list available worked out very reasonably.

Don't suppose you can look up which trader that was? I admit I didn't look for very long, but I didn't find anybody with a free choice of colours and lengths.

I have the pre 2008 carriers with wheels in the boom and replaced the wheels about 3 years ago. From the way the friction has started to impede shaking out a reef I reckon the wheels have gone again. Is it possible to update sliders to the newer model or was the boom section changed at that time?

It was a few years ago and my Ebay purchse history doesn't go back far enough. I have a vague recollection that the seller was a small chandlery in Kent. There is a seller who seems familiar. Maybe Dansonmarine?

Thanks - Danson Marine seem to have what I want. They call it "racing dyneema", which I've always understood to mean both core and cover of dyneema and potentially difficult to handle, but in fact theirs is polyester covered (which I know as "cruising dyneema") and is what I'm after.
