Seen a project boat

I still have nightmares about that boat - never again!

I have owned two. One was brilliant,- 410/F43. The other one a T50 was, let's just say my language about it would not be very gentlemanly!!!!!
Mr Kashurst - I was wondering if you could tell me what problems you had with the T50 please? I've been looking at buying one as a charter vessel in Mallorca and hear mixed reviews. Happy to have a PM, thanks

The one problem with using the original outdrive is the gearing, there is usually a good bit of reduction on the drive 1.47:1, 1.50:1, right up to 2.0:1 for petrol engines, diesel engines usually use a lower reduction.

That boat I linked above they quoted a top speed of 30km/h, with that turbo diesel it should be around 37 knots

But if he only wants 9kts ... the engine will be lightly loaded only on the original leg - if it has leg from larger engine. Be revving a bit though !!

I have just started such a project, to create a river / lake day boat from an old 20ft Sea Ray Monaco. The idea being to remove the V6 and out drive and to replace with 15 or 25hp outboard. I am currently constructing the new outboard well which will be built into the existing bathing platform.
New thread to follow shortly.

If the boat overall is good .. then looking fwd to see results. The days of big engines on rivers etc is pretty well gone given the running costs ... I have a straight 6 gasoline VP 170 in my 24ft and even though I can comfortably afford to run it - it does make you think about it. The river I live on is officially 8kts ... but many are running 15 - 20kts especially if flat planing ... and mine usually about 14kts ... that's about 60% throttle ...

If I was to remove that lump and change to a less HP outboard - I could still achieve about 14kts due to reduced weight and better fuel consumption ...
