Hi
As I am about to undergo a financially painful remast to get a pair of masts and bring my boat back to a ketch, I wondered if there is a market for a second hand main mast (which will be complete with boom and standing rigging).
My main thoughts are where to advertise and what on earth it is worth. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Brief details are - Ally, Z Spars, around 45ft high, twin spreaders, 16ft boom.
All help gratefully received. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The for sale forum here would be perfect and jolly useful for someone to get a main mast for a fraction of its new cost. Unfortunately the cutain twitchers would be out in force demanding he remove an ad for something that costs more than £200. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You could always put it on boatsandoutboards with a link from the for sale forum. You'll still need flame resistant underwear but you'll live to tell the tale. Just.

Just one thought. If you are going from one to two masts your current mast is probably taller than the new main mast. Why not cut that one and the boom down in size and just buy the smaller stern mast. Could use the existing rigging with only one set of new ends and save a packet. Also use the existing Genny as cruising chute?

The price of a the mast itself is not very high. I had to replace a sparcaftmast length 11.5 meters and big profile, the price was about 650 pounds, but it was in the Netherlands. Usually the second hand Price is higher....

Hi
The reason why we are replacing the main mast is that it is too short for the boat - even as a ketch. The sail plan specifies around 55ft wheras she came with one only 45 ft. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hi
I am not too sure what type of section of mast you are talking about here or whether you re-used fittings etc but we have been quoted that sort of cash for a boom! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Hi scrOche,

You may not have noticed but the thread you have added to is 7 years old. Much better to start a new thread. Something like "What To Do With An Old Mast"
