The sole has started to separate from the upper.

Not impressed - worse than the Dockside Sydneys I previously was buying, but with these Sebago ~ twice the price.

I was advised others expect Sebago to last several years !

I got fed up with the Quayside Sydneys failing after ~9 months.

I bought these last August so this is the result of daily use after just 7 months.

I have reported this to Sebago, so will be interested to see if they offer to replace them.

I will report back their response and whether or not I will be buying further Sebago !

Time was when a decent deck shoe would last daily use ~ 2+ years before becoming the boat maintenance pair.

Does anyone offer such service life anymore, or do we have to put up with crap on our feet ?

I also just had a similar experience with the same shoes. Noticed that the stitching had come apart on the uppers. Bought from Marinesuperstore 14 months ago and unfortunately out of warranty. They took the matter up with Sebago who also stated out of warranty and would not replace. Marinesuperstore however, did give me a discount for a new pair of shoes.

My first pair lasted years. My second pair was bought online, felt a lot lighter, and failed within months.

Apparently, fakes are common - although I would not expect that from MSS.

I did buy direct from Sebago, and still have the invoice on the order acknowledgment email. I will be interested in their reply.

I live in them, and walk around 3-4 miles most days, plus wear them for work, but I have not unduly strained the sole edge where it is detaching, therefore my view is this is simply poor quality of manufacturing. Also none of the stitching has failed so I'm wondering if the external stitching no longer performs a function, but just looks good, with some sort of glue used to attach the sole.

If so I will be looking at someone who still makes them properly - must still be proper makers out there.

Dubarry next perhaps.

I have a pair of Sebago docksiders that I use on the boat. Admitedly only occasionally. I bought them from the London Yacht Centre & they went out of business in the stone age. Still perfectly Ok & act as a backup to my Dubarrys when they get wet.

Their quality kinda went down in last years, my first 2 or 3 pairs were excellent and last 2y+ each, one that I've bought in august already broke down. All about from same store so doubt that it "suddenly" started selling fakes...

I have two pairs of Orca Bay Augusta, not sure where I bought them and wear them nearly all the time both on and off the boat, changing over if one gets wet.
I do wax and polish them when SWMBO says "you can't wear those" but I have had them for at least 7 years.
Sole and stitching still good, although on one pair the front stitching at the toe is beginning to fail.

I have both a pair of Sebago and Dubarry's in almost daily use. The Dubarry's are definitely better for lifespan, getting 2 or 3 years out of them.

My expereince is that the sole goes hard and slippery if they last more than years anyway. And "use" is a nebulous description. When I worked in a refinery I couldn't get the best work boots to last more than 7-8 months, the same boots that last me decades now.

6 years according to consumer law?

Err no, good luck proving a failure after daily use for even 1 year isn't wear and tear.

If the fault occurs after six months, the consumer has to prove that the problem was down to a fault or issue at the manufacturer, as opposed to wear and tear or misuse.

p.s. I'm not inferring of course that I agree the OP's shoes should have failed so soon, nor in that way.

God nooooo.. they are even worse. With the boots the mid soles disintegrate even if your not wearing them, same with timberland .. there is a recent thread about this .
Seems cobblers wont touch them either.
Timberland deck shoes do last very well, usually failing because the sole has worn through.
Ive a cheap pair of apache moose and they are lasting 3xtremely well.
It seems lack of wearing can ruin them as the soles need some paved surface work to keep them grippy

7 months is a bit short lifespan for daily wears, but not too wide of the mark in my experience.

I seem to have to buy a new pair of daily each year - regardless of brand. I do tend to wear the more "Approach shoe" style. My last pair of Merrells lasted best and I got almost 18 months out of them.

If you move this thread to the ‘for sale’ sub forum.....I bet you’ll get more than you paid for them👍
