SeaTalk hs

Not prepared to pay for a Raymarine cable, I bought the kit to make my own. Reporting to son what I was trying, he advised buying a shielded cable.
It doesn't work! My cable checker shows no connection difference between the RM one and the commercial one - 1-8 plus screen. Surely it can't be band width?
Using the commercial cable on the output of the E80 plotter to the RM router, there is no reaction.

Curious to know how RM kit recognises the correct cable, I wondered if it checks to see if the unused connections are present.
Butchering the one referenced above, I severed those connections unused in a RM lead - 4, 5.7 and 8.
No difference.
Time to give up and fork out.

Can't remember the exact issue, but i vaguely remember there being an issue with the connection at the plotter end with the early C/E series.

Does this help your wallet ? Pardon our interruption...

Or You searched for SeaTalk HS Network Cable - Coastalrides they often accept an offer too.

Does this help your wallet ? Pardon our interruption...That is too short but that seller supplied one that claimed to be Raymarine but it didn't work. It had the correct cables 1,2,3,6 and 9.
I have ordered from your second suggestion - Ouch!
As (in the dim and distant) I was involved in data transmission (and even had a patent for a variety) I would like to understand the problem. They're bits of electric string for goodness sake!

Pretty sure it's something to do with the connection on the plotter Graham. If i remember correctly you could use the shortest possible cable, then use a coupler and standard Cat5 cable.

All typical Raymarine, squeeze the last drop of blood out of them policy.

I have a long RM HS2 to the cockpit plotter that connected to the chart table plotter via a crossover device. Worked fine. Wanted to add the fish finder (never fired up in years). The cable fitted was ethernet and it didn't work. Took a plotter below and connected it via the crossover to the other plotter and fine. Installed RM multiplexer (router?), discarded the crossover and fine. Then started the investigation.
I have three plotters. All work fine and any two will communicate.
I like to understand!
When the cable from Coastalrides arrives, I will try that.
I have also ordered a cheapie cat 7 cable for comparison.

Sprise! Sprise!
The pucker one works. The conundrum remains.
The cheapie cat 7 cable has yet to arrive.
