If you need to monitor SeaTalk data or record and play the data, take a look at this device. DataBoy
It is just the tool.
I recently did some work with Raymarine SeaTalk protocol. It is a proprietary protocol which has some common elements to standard RS232 type communications protocols but uses the Parity bit as an active bit to denote the start of a command message, so it is really a 9bit code.
Most communication software packages only handle 8bit code but some allow identification of the parity bit so they can be used with appropriate knowledge, filtering and hardware interface to monitor SeaTalk. My requirement was to monitor/record and play the 9bit code for the research and testing work I was doing and by preference it should be portable.
I found the DataBoy on the web which allowed monitoring of 9bits and by collaboration with the designer he has produced a record/play function. It is portable and a modest cost for anyone who needs such a tool for hobbies or repair/diagnostic work with 9bit codes. Note it needs a data inverter to convert from SeaTalk bus to RS232.
I have no financial connection with this product, I bring it to the attention of the forum for those who want/need to work with SeaTalk.
