as you are taking a hammering from all sides here I will admit / confirm that I use mine to pick my way through the buoys heading into Rockley on dark nights.
I have a relatively low power unit that doesn't reflect of the bow at all and, through the glass of the cabin, highlights the hazards.
Running with it off Swanage/ Old Harry or whatever just doesn't hack it and, when I know I am comming back after dark, I take a route that keeps at least 30m from any pot markers and then navigate back over the same route (to a lesser degree I do the same in the harbour but they move more in the tide than I have space to navigate at times!
