Our boat was built under commission by Zabel Bros of Westcliff-on-sea in 1934. The work was done by E.G.King and son - two local craftsmen George Davis and his son Eric.

Anyone know anything about them?

No help I'm afraid. Looked up 1936 & 37 volumes of The Motor Boat (ie MB&Y); nothing. My Lloyds Register of 1935 lists the boat, but no list of boats in the back built by EG King, or any reference to Zabel Bros. Would seem they built very few boats which the motor boat press would report or be included in the LR. Could they be fishing boat builders?

King's was a yard opposite Burnham -on-Crouch. Last I was there there was almost nothing left except the keel and hog of a Baby Gar speedboat with the remains of its Curtis Gold Cup racing engine and vee-drive!
My friend joined the flotilla of night raders when King's closed down years ago. Got all his caulking irons that way!

I can't think of any boatbuilders at Westcliff. There's nowhere to have a yard. More likely Leigh-on-Sea. But if it was built by Kings, it could be that Zabel was a dealer/agent?
