Search Light

Yes, I have one.

Very similar.

But consider buying a good led torch instead. So much more convenient in every way.

Good luck

A good handheld LED torch is great. Will the batteries have plenty of capacity left when you REALLY need it?
If you need to use it a lot (searching for a MOB, identifying a set of navigation marks....) you may wish that you had a light plugged in to your main batteries.
Not many battery torches can match my Aqua Signal for illumination.

Have already got led torches but was looking for something more powerful for emergency use eg. Mob search.
Think I will treat myself to one of those head torches as well, they look like the dogs b*****ks.

I think you need both !
12v so it is always there
& an XML T6 cree torch that is focusable - instead of lighting a wide area as the searchlights do these project a small rectangular beam for amazing distances.

Ive been using an Led Lenser M7R at work for the last 3 weeks and have to say its very good, adjustable focus and has a rechargable battery that lasts up to 20 hours, I reckon I use it for at least 10/20 hours per week.
Best torch Ive owned so far.
50 quid off ebay

I've bought a few smaller Cree LED bulbs recently and they really are phenomenally brighter than older LEDs. I'm now planning to get a torch such as the one Cliff has posted exactly as a searchlight for MoB etc.

Also from most auto stores, a car inspection lamp running off 12v. Socket available in the cockpit so no more flat batteries just when you don't need them, a perfectly adequate beam for getting up creeks in the dark, and all for less than a tenner. Why spend more?

Is there a version of the head torch that doesn't include the flashing light? I find that a useless and annoying feature.

I would also prefer AA batteries to the 18650 (?) but they seem to be getting more ubiquitous so perhaps I should start to change my standard...

That is the only problem with these kree torches, they are so incredibly bright and cheap it is easy to get a bit carried away and end up with a collection - a frequent sound at home "Not another torch, what do you need another one for ?".

When it comes to torches and lines, what has "need" got to do with it???

Halogen is so 20th Century, CREE LED is of the moment :)
Less power consumption, no heat generation.

Indeed, I wouldn't even look at halogen nowadays, but I've had the Big Feckoff Torch for a few years now and it still gives good service, so no need to replace it. I have 420Ah and it's never on for long, so power use really isn't an issue.

I love the Led Lenser T7 torch that runs on 4 AAA lithium batteries, so much that I own two. Sits in the hand with end cap switch for full power and lower power. The directional beam on full power (IIRC 320 lumens) gives reflections off reflective material up to 720 feet! I use one to spot foxes and badgers at night whilst walking my dog and the other is on the boat. The batteries will last for 15 hours of continuous use on high power, at a cost of under £5 a set. It has alloy case with shock proof protection for 1m drop on to concrete. It is waterproof and has gold plated contacts. The single high power led has a life in excess of 100,000 hours. All from a torch 130mm long, max diameter of 37mm and weighing only 175 grams!

They have now introduced a T7.2 with further improvements. http://www.ledlenser.com/uk/flashlights/t7-2/technical-data

If you want it a bit brighter then try the Led Lanser P17.2 running off 3 D-cells.

I know. My LED bulb replacement programme has doubled back on itself and I'm now replacing domestic LED bulbs with brighter, cheaper LED bulbs. I've now starting to add them in places where there was never a lights with a traditional bulb in the first place.

I love the Led Lenser T7 torch [...] It is waterproof

Are you sure? I have the P7 (which I believe is almost the same except that the T series is "tactical", whatever that's supposed to mean). A very nice torch, but I don't believe it is waterproof due to the cooling holes around the rim.

This of course was an excellent excuse to keep the P7 at home and buy another similar (but waterproof) torch for the boat :)
