Sealing seacock to skin fitting

I will certainly be using an extra locking nut on the skin-fitting to lock the orientation of the ball-valve so the handle is in the right place.

I have done a bit more research on sealing these parallel to parallel threads.

As has been said by several of you, Loctite 572 is a good product for this purpose, but I have received an email from Loctite that warns that 572 needs 72 hours to cure and if that is an issue to use Loctite 243 instead.

Also, I got an e-mail from Hylomar Ltd. recommending their "Hylotyte red 100" sealant for this purpose.

Further to my post above, a month ago I replaced four skin fittings and seacock ball valves, all in dzr brass, and used "Hylotyte red 100" to seal the parallel threads where the ball-valve screws onto the skin-fitting and it sealed perfectly. Using an extra backing nut to lock against the seacock makes it really easy to set the orientation of the ball-valve handle. I used ptfe tape on the tapered threads of the hose-tail fittings.

I have used this extensively on all my ball valve to skin fittings and to the raw water strainer and on fuel fittings. It allows perfect alignment to be made and once it has set can be undone with normal hand tools but is more than strong enough to resist any movement during normal use. it also doesn't result in stay strands of PTFE tape ending up where it shouldn't!

+1 for Locktite 572 very good product, used on all my valves and suitable for fuel lines as well.
