Hi all
I am looking at the S41 as a next boat and am aware of the main issues that that need checking like possible hull cracks and the possible need for auto tabs or at least good tab control for potential chine riding etc. What I can't find any info on is the real world performance from the KAD 44 motors. Many seem to have the KAD 300s fitted but this is a 2002 boat with very light use

Would an owner please advise the expected cruise and top speed and etc?

I am not a speed merchant but like a sensible cruise speed to make good progress when conditions are ok.

Any advice would be very helpful.

Also any other usedul info would also be appreciated as I will be looking at the prospective boat next week

Many thanks

I have a Sealine S42 with D6 350's which gives me a top speed in the mid 30's with a comfortable cruise between 25 - 27knts. The KAD44's are 260hp so I would expect a top speed of mid to high 20's with a cruise of 23- 24knts. The issues regarding chine riding on the S41's are overplayed and can be countered with correct trim tab setting. I believe 'Nicho' of this parish had an S41. Perhaps he'll be along shortly.

I had a S41 with the KAD300s. The S41s were mostly all re-engined under warranty when the Yanmar 300hp proved too much for the Bravo drive. The Kad 300 (285) was only just up to the job really and I suspect the 44 would be fine if you don't fill up with rubble and are happy at 21knpts. We were comfortable at 23/4. 27 knots down hill with the wind behind !

Ours had KAD 300's. A comfortable cruise was around 22/24 knots, and a fraction over 30 flat out. I guess with KAD 44's 25 hp less on each side) you will be looking to knock a couple of knots off these figures. Regarding the chine riding, it was not a real problem. In smooth seas, not a problem at all, but if there was a good "chop" it did become a bit tiring with having to constantly correct the steering - I have had less steering effort as a rally driver! However, a superb boat accomodationwise - our subsequent S48 had no more room inside, though as a seakeeper, it took some beating.

Hi and thanks for the kind advice. Have now got two to look at that we are interested in the original kad44 one and now a kad 300 one!

The first is a 2002 and the kad 300 a 2000 model.

Our current boat needs hanging on to all the time with tabs and steering so it looks like it wont be too different
Many thanks for your kind help.

Any other buying advice would be very welcome too

Interestingly, there is one currently advertised that has just been re-engined with new Nanni 305hp engines and outdrives. An unusual choice.
