I had a look over an S38 today. A lovely boat but I know very little about them. I know this one had the hull strengthening works but I'm not familiar with the KAD300 engines and legs.
Has anyone owned one or know of problems to be aware of?

KAD300 is an updated KAD44 which is regarded as a good engine (usual caveat regarding ancillaries (turbos, coolers, etc) applies). MAkes sure they deliver something close to original top speed, don't overheat and don't smoke.

Cheaper and simpler to fix than later D series engines. Budget for a valve clearance check every 200 hours. Depending on age and hours, could also be due for an injector check and fuel line replacement in the next few years.

DP-G is a streamlined and beefed up DP-E.
As with any sterndrive, check bellows, water in oil, leaking trim rams.
At least the steering is "internal" with these.

Is it big bucks to sort?
Boat is due for a service so I need to know what to allow for after potential purchase.

Il try again .

3 S38s at PS for sale ,
Had the pleasure of inspection and sea trial , D4260 .
Looked over this KAD version for myself .
I’d favour over S34 .
Go for it Russ.

Yes at PS. Needs a good clean up and a service, possible canopies in the future but on the surface it all looked good.
