Hello. I wish to change my windlass on my s28. The one I have is problematic as in it trips and sticks when pulling in chain.
Any suggestions as to a quality replacement ?
Thanks in advance!

Could be your chain.
The winches fitted to Sealines are normally pretty good.
Try putting a rope on the drum after slipping the chain and see if it still trips.
Going astern whilst tied to a marina pile is quite a good test, provided nobody is about..
New graded chain is cheaper than a winch..

Are you sure it is the windlass and not a faulty contactor. The contactor is inside the windlass control box. To check if the windlass is working switch all power off on the boat then remove the two leads on top of the windlass control box going to the windlass coloured red and black. Then using a spare battery connect battery jump leads to postive and negative and on the two leads you have taken off the contactor box. The windlass should move up or down. Then reverse the leads and the windlass should go in the opposite direction. If this works then your windlass is working and the problem lies with your contactor inside the windlass control box.
