As I now live less than a mile from the Solent I have decided that I don't need such a big first boat as i was considering previously as I won't need to kip on it much. I also want to get a bit more experience before spending a big wad!

Been to look at the S25 and like it but am worried it's a tad underpowered with the diesel. Sealine quote 28 knots which is OK but people I speak to tell me 23 knots is more realistic with a couple of people on board. I would really like to be able to cruise at about 23 knots, not be flat out at it. Anyone know why you can't order one with a bit more power - a D4 210 would seem to suit it very well. I also like the Monterey 250 and that comes with a 240hp Yanmar for similar money and the promise of 35 knots.

We have S23 and top speed about 29Kts - others on here have done over 30Kts in S25. It is more of a cruiser than sports boat though, so comfortable cruising speed for us is 20 to 25 Kts in typical Solent conditions. Good fuel economy as well.

Hi. We have an s.23 (as far as I know identical in all but name) and found she will do 29 knots on the log 30 on the GPS with three up and fairly full tanks once she is properly trimmed. Agree with amf on cruising speed and economy. The boat is well built and finished for its size-certainly much better than our old Searay. We have had no problems with KAD 32, a well sorted set up. As with all of them, try before you buy!!

I don't know how you managed that, it's really quite impressive: I can only get 28-29 knots out of my S24 with the same engine.

What propellors are you running - A5 ? A6 ?
What rpm's does she pull flat out ?
Were you running downhill ? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The main problem with the D4 is that it is a LOT heavier than the KAD32 (644kg instead of 475kg) , and would make an S25 a bit stern heavy. D4's are fine in boats that were designed to take them.

im not sure what props they are
they was the standard ones when i ordered the boat from burton waters

they also got 33 knots when they pdi it with three mechanics on board
on the trent from torksy lock

but i must say the water was calm when it hit 33 it cruisers very smoth and comfy ride at 28 knots

I have just completed two Level 2 courses on the Montery 250 - Thurs/Friday and Sat/Sun. Both boats when trimmed out properly produced a top wack of around 32 knots with full fuel and in one case 4 people on board the other 3. Both boats were new so the engines were still a bit tight, but even in choppy seas off Chichester yesterday it pulled around 25 knots. The Yanmar 240 is a very responsive engine and produces every good economy.

Well worth a look and IMHO opinion the Montery offers very good value.

I had a S23 for 3 years until 7 weeks ago (upgraded to a new S28)the S25 is the same boat just rebadged. and got 26kts no trouble with 4 on board. 29kts with a clean bottom. good on fuel to boot.

Thanks for all the replies, I feel better about the S25 noW! Still a difficult choice between that and the Monterey - will have to go and have a play before I choose! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
