Dear All I am in the process of purchasing an F43 2001 model and although i know this boat very well, if anyone has one at present that could give me any tips, advise or information on issues to look out for, i would be most grateful. In addition, i am finding the boat finance business a bit of a mine field, so if you have any advice on who to try, that would be fantastic as well. Thanks for your help.

Well I purchased a 2001 F43 in February and I am very happy with it. I moved it 500NM by sea from Gib to Catalonia in Spain with very few problems.

I would certainly recommend a full survey and in particular, have the antifoul removed in as many places as possible to inspect for stress cracks, we found a couple of tiny cracks which were cosmetic and easily repaired.

Some minor faults commensurate with age have developed since it was bought, a faulty VHF which I still need to change, a faulty connection downstream of the upper and lower ignition switches that interrupts the cable that energises the port engine start relay. Also my port fuel gauge is not working properly, my flybridge helm seat slide rails were seized now sorted and I had to replace the aft cabin shower pump. Plus an OEM undersized breaker fitted to the Passerele that I will change next visit.

But the boat handles very well indeed even in the large swells that we experienced on the delivery trip.

With a clean bottom and the right conditions I top out at 28k, my boat has around 650 hours. Injectors, one turbo and one alternator all replaced as recorded in maintenance log. Make sure the engines have been regularly serviced.

The boat really suits us well, I love the dinette and the space available in the aft cabin. We also have a decent bathing platform once we have launched the dinghy which sits comfortably on chocks and is a one man operation to launch.

Feel free to PM me if you need any further info.

John

Its great boat, you should look at as many examples as possible, there are lots of subtle differences between the boats we viewed, go for best the spec you can find, service history and buy on condition.......
you could have a look at mine at the Swanwick used boat show.

They also have a later 2006 model moored directly behind, so you will see what I mean.
Hope you enjoy your new purchase as much as we have ours :)

I have an F43 and would recommend this boat. The aft cabin allows for a fair bit of privacy if you have guests or family staying & the handling in close quarters and open water is superb. Haven't encountered any problems that are particular to this boat so can't help you there, good luck with your purchase.

Spottydog is an excellent example of an f43 at that year, you wont go far wrong making a viewing.

I'd second that, a very well spec'd F43 is Spottydog and cared for beyond an obsession... we've watched Roy and Marianne giving her a clean on numerous ocassions from a bar :D (sorry, from afar) when we've visited the marina.. she's immaculate cosmetically which is invariably a good indication that the mechanics have been equally well looked after. well worth a look!

No one has answered your boat finance questions.

We used:

http://www.sgb-finance.co.uk/

Very helpful and guided us through the entire process, speak to Darren Harnett or Paul Vye on 01590 610604

We also spoke to Lombard but did not have a great experience with them.

SGB also had much better rates at the time.
