Hi all,

We are currently looking at our options to upgrade to a larger boat. I have been researching the Jeanneau Prestige 36 and the Sealine F37.

Question for Sealine F37 owners and operators: what engine do you have, do you have any reliability issues with it, what speed/fuel burn do you see, and how is access for maintenance?

I found a website (britboats.com) that lists the following engine options:
KAMD43P
D4
KAMD44 EDC
D6
KAMD300 EDC

Our budget would put us looking at 1999 to 2004 models. Not sure which engine models above post-date that age range.

In general if anyone has any opinions on the various engines and their suitability for this boat, I'd love to hear them!

Thank you, -Jason

Last ones had D4 260 and 300 , they go really well with kad 300 and D4 .
Last sea trial I did we were 8 up full fuel and water and made 31 knots in a Solent chop .

If out and out speed is not your thing, the 230hp kamd43 is more than adequate. You will get top speed of around 27knots and a cruising speed of 22ish. Nice simple engines too, with only 8 valves per cylinder and therefore less prone to head damage if not meticulously checked.

I have driven 37's with 43s, 44s and 300s. If you want more speed, you might as well skip the 44 and go straight to the 300. No personal experience of D series in this model, but they are heavy units compared to the old kamd engines and much more complex, so personally can't see any benefit in paying extra for them.

We have a similar size boat, the F36, with KAMD44 engines and cruise around 20kts at 3300 rpm. Having gone from a 26 foot Bayliner the difference is very noticeable with the bigger, heavier boat and much better seakeeping. I would image that you could find a boat with KAMD44's or KAD300's in the era you are looking at and if you do then make sure that the tappets have had regular maintenance every 200 hours.

The improvement in the F37 that would be really useful for us to have on the F36 would be the swinging helm seat on the flybridge to make it a more sociable place when entertaining.

The access to the engines is bound to be tight just because of the size of the boat and engines being on shafts but for me (6ft4) I have managed to get to most places around the engines one way or another and routine checks are easy to do.

Have a look at a Rodman 38 if you can find one near you. Slightly longer and a bit wider with similar engines. Much more room inside and out than an F37 and the engine access is much better. Deeper V hull too so rides very smoothly. However not as fast. 3300rpm = 19/20 knts
