When new the windows were fixed with rubber seals that worked very well but these seals are not now obtainable. The glass is 6.4mm laminated glass in a u section channel just under 9mm wide so not wide enough to use butyl tape. Glass websites have a number of warnings about the effect of sealants with solvents attacking the film between the glass sheets and causing creeping fogging at the film, similarly water doing a similar thing and the importance of drain holes to avoid the edge sitting in water. I considered Butyl Rubber (Arbomast Autograde Windscreen Sealer) but note that this is part oil based and the reading I have done suggests a Neutral Curing Silicon such as Dow Corning 799, which is for glazing and claims excellent adhesion to glass and aluminium. Any relevant experiences wiith laminated glass seating/sealants etc would be interesting to hear.

I would have thought car windscreen sealant would be the right stuff seeing as car screens are all laminated. Contact Dow Corning via their website form for advice. I got a helpful response quite quickly from them.

I recently installed two toughened glass windscreens on the motorsailer. The sealant supplied was a polyurthane very similar in appearance to Sikaflex but the installation pack also included a primer that I suspect is essential.
