Over the years I have tried most antifoulings but the Seajet range I haven’t.

Does anyone have first hand experience of this stuff either the Shogun or Emperor (034). or even the Platinum (039)

I would be especially interested in those who have used it on the East Coast. Lowestoft through to the Solent areas.

Your views good or bad would be appreciated.

Thanks... Peter

I used Seajet Coastal the last two years. I only used it the 2nd year as I had half a can left from the 1st year. I had a Jaguar 21 on a drying very muddy mooring on the Medway. I had no weed at all but both years after a couple of months had a really thick crop of barnacles where the boat sat in the mud. Coastal is supposed to be good for drying moorings but it didn't work for me. I have changed the boat this year and will try something else, not sure what yet.

Used 033 on most of hull plus a small can of Emperor around waterline, on prop and leading edges of keel/rudder. SW England, high fouling area, pretty good results afloat April-Nov, slightly better than previous years much more expensive Blakes Performer stuff.

I've used Shogun on a non drying mooring at Burnham for several years.
First year was excellent, subsequent years less so, but still good.
My theory is that the biocide is boosted when a new antifoul is introduced, to give a good impression, then cut back in later years.
Having said that, it's pretty good, better than many, no worse than more expensive ones.
My boatyard always "touch in" the bits where the cradle touches, when launching. One year they used a locally made antifouling instead of my Shogun. Within weeks I had four squares of fouling where that was done.
A big advantage is that it's easy to rub down for future coats.
BTW; Marinestore are doing 15% discount boatshow or Xmas deal at the moment. My order for this years paint has just arrived.

We use a base of Shogun and then over-coat with Emperor. Works a treat here in Portugal (I know it's not the east coast!).

Goes on easy - the Emperor is a fair bit thinner.

We have no significant growth at all right up until it's worn off. That only takes us about a year. Most press articles suggest up to two years which i'd probably agree with if we didn't wear it off.

We buy ours in the UK direct from the importer (found by a simple search). Better price than most other paints from the chandler.

Good Luck

I changed from Optima to Seajet Shogun for the last 2 or 3 seasons. Extremely pleased with it. Can be scrubbed regularly before racing, (just a brush over the side, not lifted out) and very little in the way of barnacles or other nasties at the end of the season.
Really only on the bottom of the keel where I had cut corners too enthusiastically. They say if you don't go aground from time to time you aren't trying hard enough. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Boat is a wooden day racer on a mooring on the Orwell.
I don't know how it would fare if just left to its own devices all season without any interim scrubbing. I did not scrub for a month last season and there was only superficial black slime though.
Hope this helps

Peter,

Emporer is an excellent product. I use the Emporer white and it is colour stable (it doesn't go green as many other white a/f's do). I applied just one coat at the start of this season and there's dirt on it now but no real growth. I will be re-applying seajet in about ten weeks time.

Helped a mate who'd used Shogun. A bit of whispy weed and one small cluster of wee barnacles. This was in Dover harbour. We slapped on the same - managed two coats plus extra on edges.

'cos you could alway.s slip over to Gt. Yarmouf and trog down to the Trawler paint supplier thats down on the left.....Used Shogun for years... no probs....but it only used to cost about £30 a gallon...had to buy 5g at a time but had no probs sharing it! Think the name begins with an S....By the time I started building, was bringing back 4 5g drums in the Passat!
