Good evening,

Just finished coating the bottom with hempels hp2 2 pack epoxy.

We were originally expecting to put seajet 015 single pack primer on when tacky
then seajet 37 coastal hard antifoul

Untill today i wasnt aware of the correct hempel "process"

Hempel book says there single pack (light) can be put on when the epoxy tacky - missed the boat for this now
or
2pack underwater primer if the epoxy is past tackly and gone past its recoat time.

Neither of which i had -

just painted a fresh coat of epoxy expecint to use seajet 015 on the tacky hempel

just as I was about to crack the 015 tin a fellow boater said it might be an idea to check if they would take to each other when tacky being resin based.

So

I should have checked this before hand. - but didnt.
ive now got drying hempel epoxy - now well past tacky

Do I let the hempel hp2 dry completely

and use seajet 015?

Is this do able?

does the epoxy need to be keyed up before the seajet primer?

Or pay out again for hempels 2 pack under water primer and then use seajet 37

New to it all

My opinion in the face of time and expense would be to leave as is and see how performs this season and if poor use knowledge to rectify next year

ok so, key the epoxy up when its fully dried and go on with the 015?

Tbf the 017 is the seajet version of the hp2. which says to follow with seajet 015 afterwards. so probbably would be fine?

You’ll need a tie coat before the anti foul. You mention Hempel Light Primer but I’m fairly sure that’s a solvented 2 pack epoxy. Hempel Underwater Primer would be the way to go. Looking at Seajet 015, it looks like a suitable substitute. International Primocon would be another option.

Basically, ignore your pal.

Check your overcoating times for the HP2. Reading back, you’ve just applied a fresh coat. If the the previous coats were fully cured, did you prep before applying the new coat or were you within time?

Hp2 from Bare up to x4 coats all within the drying time to add additional coats. After 8hrs or so.

I'm still within the drying time. - days

I don't know how crucial the tacky" part is before applying the bond primer

All I need to know is when and if

Can can 015 be put ontop of epoxy.

Considering 117 is epoxy and the sheet says to use 015 afterwards.

There can't be too much difference?

Also 015 says it can be put over almost everything.

Ideally due to weather time

I'd love to get it on today.

I still have patches to touch up from Bare to bond coat too

Sounds like you’re within time for overcoating with HP2.

If I were you, I’d be happy to go ahead with the 015.
If you’re wanting a definitive, ask the people that sold you the paint.

015 is fine over HP2. Applying onto tacky avoids sanding prep and provides a stronger bond between the layers. If you’re pressed for time, don’t overthink it, just get it applied.

I have checked it this morning

It's pulling off by finger nail with a bit of effort.

Would you say that's past the get it on stage and onto needing to be roughened 1st ?

When HP2 is cured it’s as hard as bricks. If it’s soft, it’s nowhere near cured.

I wouldn’t waste any more time. I’d be applying primer.
