Seagull Droppings

Following great encouragement by a well meaning person who feeds the local seagulls, a few hundred are now residents on our river. The mess they make is horrendous, Every week demands loads of hosing down. Finally the boat canopy is to be replaced, but dont want it to be for the benefit of the gulls.
So does anybody have any first hand experience of Ultrasonic, and other electronic gull scarers? A 12 bore is not apropriate, neither is an AK47, although either may be entertaining for a while. Plastic bags and flapping CD's are not very effective.

Only thing I know that frightens them off is a 12 bore, just shoot two and hang there bodies on the boat, in a conspicuous place, wont stop the seagulls sh...ing on other boats, but they wont come near yours! It works, it's exactly what I did in Dartmouth, barbaric maybe, but my boat was clean, you should see what guano does to varnish!

A full size plastic model of a fox will do it.

Plastic hunting decoy ducks, one on the foredeck, one on the cabin roof.
Without, covered in guano. With, clean as a whistle.

Once watched one gull land and then give the plastic duck 20mins (literally) of verbal abuse before flying off without dropping anything.

Ok Guys, Thank you for the contributions. I have seen many attempt to scare them using plastic owls, somewhere have an old picture of a gull using the owl as a perch! As there are some electronics devices around and have some resouces in that area, I was really looking for somebody who had actually trodden that path. Once we have had a go at this I will post the results, regardless of effectiveness.

Right now am bored by washing and scraping!
