On the train back from St Raphael where I went today to conduct a sea trial on a boat we had made an offer on. Met with the surveyor (Keith Wallis and a great bloke who I highly recommend) and set off.
On board were the two of us, a friend of Keith's the owners and the broker. 6 all up. The boat is a 2008 Bavaria 37 HT and is a peach. Keith was very impressed with the condition, maintenance and the broker.
We left St Raph and immediately noticed that there was an issue with the depth sounder (owner and broker started apologising profusely and will sort it out. This has been the approach the whole way with the owner and broker, they want to sell a well presented boat at a good price with our hassle. Low speed and high speed handling was excellent, speed and engine checks at 500rpm bands. All tout Bon. Topped out at 33 kts which I was happy with as the boat is loaded to the gunnels with the owners stuff!
Everything was put through its paces and tested. Everything worked. After 90 mins back to harbour for another 90 mins of crawling over things. Owners only too happy to lift move stuff and explain away. Even discovered the boat has a 2000w inverter!
The deal was sealed and we should be the owners in time for the beginning of August.
Once I figure out how to post photos now that photo box is stuffed I will do and a short video.
Just sitting here grinning like a loon.
