Pretty impressive service from them today. Attempting to leave our visitors berth in Lymington Yacht Haven, one of our KAD 44's refused to fire up - turned over OK, but no sign of it starting. The marina were anxious for us to leave with the berth holder about to return, and I didn't fancy a long drag back to Swanwick on one engine, so I called Sea Start. The lady was very helpful, and within about 15/20 minutes their engineer was on board.

A few mutterings about Volvo EDC, and a complete re-boot saw the engine burst into life. Great service, and very reassuring to have their back up. I will definitely remain a customer.

Used them a couple of weeks ago in Poole - with us in well under half an hour and sorted the issue very efficiently.

Nick Eales runs a very sound service, but rather more disconcerting is why a software re-boot is needed to take your boat out. Start engines, Disconnect shore lines, leave, pull in fenders, oh yes before you go check tide times and weather forecast - NOT phone Bill Gates !

It will be investigated, though it appears to be necessary under such circumstances to switch off all power and wait a couple of minutes? No idea, but they ran perfectly on the way back.

Our boat is a just approaching two years old, and in the first six months we had a persistent problem with Volvo low speed functionally failing and the engines dropping back to neutral. After a few visits, and some sensor changes, the ultimate cure was having the software reinstalled. Doesn't seem right on an engine, does it? Sign of the times.

Glad Sea Start got you going. It's nice to have the reassurance, isn't it? They were good to us when I had them out to our old sailing boat a few years back, mid Solent. Last year I bought my parents a sub as a Christmas gift, but that's as much for my sanity as theirs.

I presume your 'long drag' to Swanwick would still take half the time to get there than my sailyboat even when everything was running smoothly!

No Sea start where I boat (Off East Anglia) and I also would never want a boat that had any software in the engine. I know it is where things are heading but it is completely unnecessary.

For I second I read that as "bought my parents a submarine", but guess you mean subscription, doh.

+1. Speaking from personal experience EVC stands for ELECTRONIC VESSEL CATASTROPHE !

I am pleased to say that we were one of their very first customers and used them a few times during our 12yrs boating in the Solent. I can't speak too highly of them and I'm delighted to see that Nick and his team are still going strong. I also did one of their engine courses which was a day well spent

I was a member for 10 years or so. Called them out twice; both times excellent service. I also benefited from a highly enjoyable engine course. Unlikely to forget the description of the manner in which the fuel should emerge from a lift pump: "Like a 17 year old's ejaculation" :D

Sadly, all down to emissions - same on cars.. The best engines Volvo ever made were the AD41's. No EDC, no "fly by wire" throttles, just simple turbocharged mechanical engines. I think they were also their most successful, with a 19 year production run.
