Hello there

I have a Rival 32 and am keen to fit self steering for longer passages. I have been looking at a few systems and am keen on the Sea Feather system. Does anyone have any experience with these self steering systems?

The chap that sells them is based in Paignton IIRC. I spoke to him a couple of years ago and he was happy to let me come and look at the one on his boat. In the event I didn't get around to following it up but, as you are based in Devon, it might be worth a call.

I doubt that you'll get an unbiased view from him though!

He doesn't just sell them, he builds them from scratch and has developed the design over the years. All his developments have, of course, been tested on his boat and either incorporated into the current design or abandoned, depending on results. He is most helpful and when I contacted him was more than happy to discuss exactly what would suit my boat. Sadly within a month I was made redundant, so the plan to purchase was abandoned.

Rob.

One of our owners' association members had one on his Varne Folkboat and seemed more than happy with it.
