I have to replace one which has failed. It is SS on to bronze fittings. Should I change like for like or replace with DZR?
sea cock. dzr or stainless steel.

Yes. DZR. Stainless has no benefit over DZR in this application and indeed can suffer from crevice corrosion in the threads. Corrosion of threads is a common cause of failure in through hulls and fittings - either galvanic action in plain brass or crevice corrosion in stainless. DZR or bronze avoids this.

Replace it with Marelon, future corrosion eliminated at a stroke.

Except if the OP has bought a valve to go onto his bronze skin fitting, in which case it will be a simple swap over, though I would normally use a complete seacock as shown in the video.

Are they good? Do they not go brittle with age? They would be useful from a galvanic corrosion point of view.

Brilliant things, used a great deal more in Oz & NZ than Europe but are catching on over here and USA, let's face it bronze is so.... well, bronze age

My boat in Greece has a combination of Marelon & Banjo plastic seacocks, fitted in 2008. They work very well & no sign of any issues at all...

Fitted a number of Merelon valves a couple of years ago. Very pleased with them. No stiff handles no corrosion.

Be sure you have space to fit it as they are dimensionally different from metal valves. Tru Design valves from Lee Sanitation are direct replacements for metal valves if you feel the need to go down this route.
