Sea Area Change

I hear that in February next year sea area Finisterre will become known in the shipping forecast as sea area Fitzroy and that the boundaries for sea area Plymouth are to undergo minor changes. Watch this space.

Where did you hear that? I'd be interested to seek confirmation. Also do you know the reason for the name change that you've suggested?

Presumably they'll have to rename it Virginia Woolf Rock as well

Someone tell the BBC and Met Office that it is too late. Almanacs and similar material are already published for 2002.

Why are they being changed?

Finisterre must be one of the best names around - why does it need to be changed? Perhaps multilingual seafarers cannot work out if they are off the NW tip of Spain or the SW tip of Cornwall!

There is no truth in the rumour that the Isle of Man is to be renamed Isle of Person, despite a store in Cornwall being taken to task for advertising a situations vacant for a Father Christmas for being discriminatory against women!
