Slightly more seriously ... if I am even likely to be able to persuade SWMBO to come with me then I will need to cross in company ... I'd worked out that at our 6 knots (to your 7) that if we left an hour before you then you should overtake us half way and be in Cherbourg ready to catch our lines! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ... now I may have to find someone else to do that!
At 18 knots downwind in a F4 and about 10 upwind ... Chi-Cherbourg is around 10 hours and the return journey a touch over 4 ... hmmm - may have difficulty in brewing a cuppa though! ...
why the difficulty with the cuppa? we took 3 hours last year (from Poole) but had at least 1 cuppa enroute............... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
however the cuppa was nothing to the beer cans dispensed as we passed the outer rafted boat on arrival - real nectar!
There will be lots going from both east & west solent. There will be boats to the front of you and boats to the rear of you. I am sure many will post intended departure times nearer the date on the Cherbourg Forum.
It might be an idea if we nominate a standby VHF channel so you can chat to others en -route and reassure SWMBO that you are surrounded by friends - even if its not true!!
Once I stock up with beer I may well declare an open house for Janes Buoy in the afternoon. If a few other do it as well it might make an interesting drinking circuit that will encourage more mixing as I regretted (though others might have been pleased!) missing quite a few people last year and if I did speak to you later in the evening, the worse for wear, I appologise for the even worse than the normal Bo**ocks that I spoke!
The usual shambolick organisation from self and Cutter (not quite so shambollix as myself) will commence nearer the time meantime the dates are set
Not going to even think of registration yet as so many early takers drop out nearer the time. The only limitations are the number of seats in the yacht club for dinner
