Several pubs in Ardrishaig. Can't remember any names. Last time we spent the night in the sea-lock we got involved in a darts tournament in one of them, friendly place. Is the Boat the one that backs onto the canal just above the basin?
Planning to meet AFTER an attempt to round the Mull is asking for trouble, more often than not you end up in Campbeltown utterly knackered after bouncing around Ailsa Craig for several hours.. Funny though, you ALWAYS manage it in one go coming back into the Clyde from just about anywhere!

Think so- it's in a fork in the road, and you go in round the back (facing the canal) at sort of first floor level, over a 'bridge'. Used to be owned by a Londoner, but that's a few years ago.
Not far from the first lock.

Went up stairs to The Boat. I'm sure last time I walked by it was closed, but then you come to The Lorne, then The Argyll then what was The Royal but now The Grey Gannet.... probably one I've missed.

On the other side of the canal is another (country house type) lounge bar.

We usually go to the Argyll where the food is excellent.

Great, that's the pubs in Ardrishaig sorted out. Where are we off to next? The Harbour Inn in Ardrossan opens at some silly time like 0800 and sells jugs of beer for £2.50.

I'm not going to Ardrossan at this time of night, even if the beer IS almost free.
Has anyone actually had a drink on Sanda? In the pub, I mean.

Seems to be more popular with the Irish.

Are there any moorings available? How tidal is the anchorage?

yes, don't think so, and not very.

It's pretty sheltered in there unless it blows up from the east or north east. good-ish holding on clean sand. The tide swirls a bit but does not flow through. It's quite amusing entering the anchorage, as you move out of the mini-gulfstream flowing past into relatively still water in the space of a boat-length.

I stopped in there once on my way round the Mull, waiting for the tide to change. The advice we got from a local (the lassie in Viccy Wine) was to go to Sanda with the S'ly current, wait for the change, indicated by the buoy visible from the anchorage, and then go.
Seemed to work, but then we could just as easily have battered into it, we'd have arrived sooner......

I suppose it all depends on your destination.
We usually head for Gigha and have always managed to get round in daylight from Campbeltown - OK have had early starts.

It would make sense if you were going further afield to make an overnight stop at Sanda and get the first of the north going tide early in the morning. This would give you at least 2 hours extra than if you started from Campbeltown.

Wont be going round this year as we'll be doing the CCC Tobermorey race again.
