Scuttlebutt Falmouth?/Fowey?/Plymouth? weekend - Spring

Having had no confirmations from those listed below, I'm assuming you're not coming:

Outside chance:
Cliffdale info received
Scillypete
Zagato
Camelia
Giblets and Mike info received

Expressed interest but no details received:
halcyon
jamesjermain
Eygthene

Correct assumption, for me there is no getting away at the moment sadly . . . . . . . have a good party

Sorry to hear that Pete, I take it your other crew whose name eludes me isn't confident/competent enough to carry on regardless?

Steph.

A useful pair of hands on board - imagine someone who'd recently completed a Comp Crew course as their first encounter with boats - but not really an experienced sailor.

We'd almost certainly get by ok on our planned route, but I would be a lot more relaxed with Chris on board too. I know I can hand him the wheel in any situation and not have to worry (eg with our engine issue the other month, while I was head down in the battery locker and engine bay and he was sailing blind keeping us off the shore). He can skipper a boat in his own right, and so acts as a double-check on any dodgy decisions I might make. And these days he takes complete charge of the galley on Ariam (both provisioning and catering) which otherwise I would be doing (Steph doesn't cook) and that's actually a surprisingly large load to remove from my mind.

Quite apart from which, the idea was for the three of us to go on holiday together, and with only two it wouldn't be the same. We've nominated a different week instead (and the week with my parents which was to have been Fowey -> Southampton will now be cross-Channel) and I only have so much leave available.

Pete

Sounds like a good non-plan to me SL. As long as Cawsand is suitably sheltered (of course).

Were you in there on Saturday-a catamaran with an aero rig?

Cawsand is fine except in Easterlies.

Yes, that was me but wash your mouth out (with beer) - it's a Freewing, not an AeroRig.

Oops sorry, you will have to instruct me in the finer points next weekend. :-)

Met up with slow_boat (twice) last week, in Fowey and Falmouth. I am pleased to report that our practice sessions went very well. My liver might have recovered by next weekend!

Falmouth end, I believe the plan is for KevO's cultural tour of Falmouth to commence at 6pm at the Prince of Wales.

This is not a pub crawl 'cos of sailing the next day - more a sedate and respectable "meet fellow forumites".

We will move on about 7pm but will leave details of where we are at the P of W and on here.

We're not going to be able to come to Fowey I'm afraid, engine problems. Might catch up with you on Friday night somewhere though.

(Why do outboards not work when you're on the water, but work perfectly well when you run them in the waterbutt when you get home?)

You make it sound like there's a plan which we know would be against the non-rules....

But following our discussions over a pint last week or so ago I have a running order of hostelries that will avoid the Friday night loons and take us from the Prince to the Locker. Agree we should meet in the Prince of Wales from 1800 and plan to move on to the next at 1900. More details to follow.

It would be good to have numbers so that I can continue haggling with landlords or arrange some snacks en route. :-)

I've got a 2.5 hp Honda you can borrow for weekend

As a reminder, we need to confirm who wants the buffet at Fowey. I need to know this by Thursday morning at the very latest. Some people may be put off by the current forecast of 27kt southerlies all weekend, but there's plenty of time for that to be something totally different. We should have more of an idea by late Wednesday.

Gallants are going to have to buy in the food, so we don't want them buying enough for 50 and then only 15 turning up.

I'll be there and I'm sure Simba Dog will be he sounds laid back. Other crew has job probs but I'm hoping he'll make it.
Southerlies F5 whatever

A big be aware, not sure if it is still there but for the last few years in St Austell Bay there was/is a large fish farm marked by line of buoys approx 1 nm , nasty trap.

I will indeed be there :encouragement:
My weather forecast for Fowey on Saturday is SW 12knots, Sun, Temp. 21.
:hopeless:

Officially, we are not attending, but there are a few boats from the Exe "heading to Falmouth" for Saturday and Sunday and I'll try and say hello. We might stop of at Cawsands for a snooze on Friday.

Being part of the Plymouth contingent I am planning to sail to Fowey on Friday (probably in the morning unless tides play a part (it's springs))
Not looking to sail in company but would not mind.

Bit concerned about the weather at the moment but as Russell has said this has time to change.
From the predictions I have seen the direction will always be S or SSE but let's hope the max gusts drop down a bit.
