Scuttlebutt Clyde Cruise - Final Call

I've got us booked in at Cumbraes. We won't have exclusive use of the bar - they have 25 residents there that night but I don't think that will be an issue. I have said that they can join our quiz if they want. I don't think I'll bother booking us in for Tarbert - shouldn't need to with all those new pontoons.

Sorry guys...once again I cannot make it....have been advised I have a wedding to attend in Inverness on the same day.......mind you its tempting to tell here where I would rather be!! :-(

Hi everyone and sorry for not playing more attention to the forum posts, busy busy recently, as Dan and Pete have said I am back as a very mature student, probably the maturist, (chronologicaly)at GCNC at present.
I have embarked on an HNC in Social care, so will probably be a better person by the end of it, I'm up to my ears in socialogy and social policy at present.
Good to see some of you taking an interest in Fiddlers Green, which is a great song if sang in the correct tempo and words, unfortunatly the words posted here are different from Soodlums version that I have known since my last toweling nappy and the vidoe link has the wrong tempo, more suited to a funeral march.
I dont mean to criticise anyone or your efforts which I for one appreciate.

If someone can tell me how to/where to save a scan of my Soodlums page with words, music, and guitar chords for the ballad, I will then add it to the forum for you to study, then we will be able to rattle it off in harmony.
I have also learned the words to Isle of Innisfree (theme tune to the Quiet Man film) but am finding it hard to keep the air/tune and would definatly need to be accompanied by mouthie or accordian.
And I have freshined up my memory on part of the original version of Waltzing Matilda, "Not your version Markie" if you are there?, this version has to be sang sitting down, not standing on a table, lol.

Yes I intend to be at the Cumbrae centre on the fri eve and should have Craig crewing for me, Besula Bob is intending going too, and I am hoping Jim on Emma will be there but that's not a certainty yet.
Really looking forward to it and meeting you all again.
If anyone is needing a berth let me know, I can take one more body, byob!
Now to have a go at scanning this.
Oh Danny, dont be fooled by the centre pontoon for a wind less berth, I could show you a video of it that would really enlighten you of what it can be like.

PS this is closer to the correct tempo but not sure of their words though.

Shame about the quality, but at least it's in C and we can spot an Am( not noted before)
Can't guarantee the tune on the night as I don't read music...
-probably immaterial by that time of the evening anyway.

Yes Bill, the quality of the scan is poor like the video link, but the link seems to be in the correct tempo, and the words on the music sheet is the words I know.
Great to hear you are joining us at the Cumbrae centre its been quite a while since I met up with you, infact the C&W fest at Millport about this time last year, I'm sure.

Iain, Was Passage weather not closer to the truth regarding today's weather?

Sadly, I find I can't make it; other duties have appeared on my radar screen for this weekend. Peter Cooper will take care of Capricious for me; and I hope everyone has a relly good time!

Paul, you're not letting him out in your lovely boat are you? he cant sail, I had to teach him to put in a reef last sun as he nearly bloody killed me, and that was after he enquired "which bit is the mast"? and when he asked me which bit was used for steeirng the boat I nearly went overboard with worry, especially as he was trying to steer with the manual bilge pump, then he broke my plotter. "Poor Capricious".!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont worry, I will keep an eye to make sure he doesent ground your boat Paul and I'll call him up on the radio and give him passage directions.
Of course its all in jest Pete. lol.

Sorry to hear you wont be able to join us Paul, and wishing you both all the best in october.

".....then he broke my plotter."

Well in my defence I'd never seen a clockwork plotter before:)

"I'll call him up on the radio and give him passage directions."

So that's why you have 2 fixed VHFs and a hand held at the chart table? Or is it in case you lose one in the pub:)

Thanks for a great wee sail - do you think I will ever get the hang of it?

Great reply Pete, lol. (Cant figure out how to put in smliies)
VHF's are to "Be Sure To Be Sure"
Must admit I was impressed the way you took her onto the mooring under sail.
Yer a good man.

I am going to contact Cumbraes Watersports Centre about the Friday(18/09/09) night to ensure that they have arranged for the bar to be open, so an idea of numbers would be useful.
If you are hoping to be there, please let me know so that I can make arrangements. If there are sufficient numbers I will probably contact Tarbert as well to see if we can get a block mooring, and possibly discount.
Thanks,
Pete

I'm going to potter up North so expect to be there on Friday evening. What's the berthing arrangement at CWC? Do we all need to raft up? My boat is not very raft friendly.

We have had to raft up before but that was because the outside of the pontoon was a bit rough due to wind direction. Depends how many boats are there, I would say you could get about 12-15 boats without rafting if you use the inside and outside and the dog legs. Using the outsides can be a bit iffy if there is any east in the wind. Also there may be other boats using it that are not in our party.
It's free to use so you don't pay your money and take your chance.
I was there last Saturday night and we were the only boat there.

I'm sure you will get in somewhere or somehow.

I'm going to tempt fate a bit but the the weather is looking not too bad for next weekend.

Don't worry - I trust the rest of you to tie Pete to the mast when he gets too carried away!

BTW, 5 weeks and counting to my wedding day :-)

Angus, there shouldn't be any problems fitting you in somewhere. If there's any breeze all the speed mad monohull sailors will be wanting a shot in your speed machine:)
All the best, Pete.

Just a note that I wouldn't fancy being on the outside of the pontoon unless the weather was really settled. with no east at all in the wind. The inside is surprisingly sheltered, though.

I'm on my way!

Hi to all!

I am planning on being there on the Friday...then as it is our clubs final muster of the season we will be going over to Largs on the Saturday.
Looking forward to finally meeting everyone...and putting faces to forum names and their respective vessels.

See you all soon!

Hi Pete and everyone else. This seems like too much fun to miss, so we plan to be at there on Friday, however we are unlikely to be able to make Tarbert on Saturday. Looks like I will need to dust down the Fender acoustic and bring it along so I am not the odd one out! I will need to teach SWMBO the spoons or something. Looking forward to seeing the faces behind the forum names.

I thought I'd post on here again to bring it back to the top. The weather looks OK for the weekend - although the last forecast I saw was looking a bit light on wind.
I am looking forward to meeting you all either again or for the first time.

Forecast is looking not to bad, winds will probably be a bit light but good temps and a fair bit of sun hopefully, might even get the kite up.
Quiz is done Pete so get your thinking head on. Did you want to compete this time because Edmund won't be there? :D:D
I'm planning to get away about 5pm tomorrow night so should be there around 7.30pm
Looking forward to a weekend's sailing without rain.
