Scuttlebutt Cherbourg Cruise 2015

Re: Anyone thinking of crossing on Saturday instead of Friday?

Has anyone downloaded the updated Almanac chart for Cherbourg that they can share? I believe I need a code from this year's Almanac to download and the Almanac is on the boat.

Re: Anyone thinking of crossing on Saturday instead of Friday?

What next? Cheap Normandy plonk turned into a fine Cheateau Montrachet would be my starter for 10 :D

Water into wine I can do but with taste buds that like wines I can't afford I have to rely on my powers of self delusion

Now had Jokers e mail address only no contact from Paul2.884 so assume he isn't coming.

just issuing latest spreadheet with a few extra details then off to boat to get ready for an early start on Friday.

Fair winds to all and see you in Cherbourg for hopefully a sunny Saturday.

Reminder to self collect new spinnaker for Sunday!! If we fly it - it will be first time ever - First officer won't let me fly it when just 2 of us.

Getting ready to leave the the office and just looked at the weather forecast for Sunday ...suspect your spinnaker may be staying in its bag a little while longer, unless of course you've purchased a sneaky Code 0

Happy sailing all!

might have replied to the wrong message there we are heading over on Friday, leaving Poole around 0630 I expect, do we know what pontoon we will be on in Cherbourg?

Generally the furthest left ones, but we don't have an area all to ourselves. I tend to keep an eye out for forum burgees and if there's a berth free near a cluster of them then I'll slot in there.

Thanks see you Friday night

Good sailing to all those going, looks like the weather window is opening, unfortunately the Chubbies have been seduced by an alternative inland dinner engagement in a certain city up the A34 :(

We've had to scratch!

Our two hours motoring to Yarmouth yesterday evening spilt a third of the fresh water coolent out via the corroded filler cap flange. Cleaned the thing after supper, even packed the seal with grease and tightened down, refilled etc, but half an hour's gentler motoring out Hurst in the pre-light of dawn showed accelerating loss again. Now sailing to Swannage...

Well. The morning after the night before. DJE and Sailfree who were berthed either side of me have now departed. Presumably others have too.

It was great meeting old friends and new. Many thanks to Sailfree for organising once again - wine tasting, pontoon party were good, and the Yacht Club served up a very good meal.

Angele and her crew are staying a bit longer. Not yet sure whether we will go back tonight of tomorrow morning. So we'll get to watch the triathlon.

And the weather yesterday and again today has been a real bonus.

Many thanks to Giblets and crew for their after dinner hospitality, and by the way, dinner was excellent.
The evening entertainment provided by Sailfree's crew was outstanding.

I will second that. Along with the weather it was another absolutely fabulous Scuttlebutt day (and late into the next morning thanks to Giblets and Mike -I have the photographs!)

Motored all the way to Bembridge Ledge then a nice reach across to Portsmouth. Most of the evening we've been unloading wine and other goodies in two dinghies and fetching it home.

Thanks to all for a great weekend. Sue wants me to pass on her thanks too. It has to be said that she was a little the worse for wear this morning - not helped by the alarm on my phone going off at 04:00 French time. Much of the morning was spent in a sea berth but she recovered enough to manage a mid-channel fry-up for lunch.

I will dig out the photos of Dom & Angele when I get a chance tomorrow.

Roger and Fergus deserve knighthoods. Another excellent weekend, old friends and new. I did enjoy it. THANKYOU!

Currently in the Divers; NO CLUB SANDWICH! Disaster. Must have another Doom Bar.
