Scuttlebutt Cherbourg Cruise 2015

Available to crew. Have made numerous crossings, N Fr and C.I.'s. Based in West Sussex but mobile.

I still have space (2 double cabins) if anyone needs a ride (Bavaria 49)

Sailing over from Hamble Friday.

The current forecast is going to have to improve a bit. I'm sure this isn't what we ordered!

There are a number of boats offering crew places.

Unfortunately my boat is oversubscribed as usual and I have had to limit my crew numbers.
I'm back in UK now.
If anyone wants to hitch a ride, leaving from Wareham (Poole), let me know.
Especially if anyone wants to extend either side of the weekend.
I can sleep two, three if someone wants to rough it in the saloon.

Most of the weather sites I have just had a peep at are suggesting a good blow from the north on the Friday. For the outbound passage, I can think of worse directions... :encouragement:

Hi .... Anyone got some firmish weather for next Friday ? .... Regards

I'm not sure I trust forecasts for the British Isles more than 5 days ahead when there are depressions heading across the Atlantic. Maybe if we had a big area of high pressure established and settled over us, but that doesn't seem to describe the situation we are in.

All three of the weather forecast websites I looked at yesterday (and which were suggesting northerly wind on Friday) are now suggesting variations of SW'ly winds. :nonchalance:

Yes they all seem to be contradicting each other and changing on every update ...... just trying to give crew the heads up :)

For now, just tell them it'll be fine, assuming that is what they want to hear. ;)

.... You can leave scaring the pants off them until 24 hours before.

Roger!!!!

3 of us on Lyvette now, Fergus, Adrian and me. Adrian is not a forumite but am sure will fit in well.

To anyone leaving from Poole, our plan is to catch the 18.30 bridge lift from Cobbs, stay overnight in Quay Marina and leave for Cherbourg early on Friday.

Hello

We are in Port of Poole marina intending to sail over Friday morning, What time were you thinking of leaving?
Yacht "Quest" give us a call.

Paul

P.S. it looks like there will be 2 of us as the third member of our crew starts uni. that weekend.

Hi Paul, between 5 and 6 to get daylight off Old Harry.

that seems early, but looking at the tides I think you are right to get a fair tide past Old Harry and Swanage we need to be past there by 0730~0800. we might make the 0600 start but I wont get the crew ready for 0500!

So Much for Plan A.

Which had been to have all this week off, cross today and spend a few days in St. Vaast and Carentan before the rally. On the current forecast I can't see us crossing before Friday. Might try to sneak down to Yarmouth on Wednesday or Thursday to get better tides and a better slant across - but everything is on hold at the moment and I'm back in the office!

Re: So Much for Plan A.

Nothing like leaving everything to the last minute, but could you squeeze another boat in?

We unexpectedly have the chance to leave Hamble on Friday and have the weekend in Cherbourg, weather permitting.

It would be yacht Two Diamonds and at least 2 crew, possibly three. What do I need to do?

edit: Subsequently engaged brain and pm'd Sailfree.
