Has a date been set for this years meet? If so when?
If not can we start a debate and pencil in dates?
I suggest 15th September.

That's just coming off springs.

The advantage of that time is that it makes St Vaast a much easier proposition in terms of lock times than neaps.

It also makes for a lively crossing if the wind blows up a bit, as it did in 2003.

Agree, but IIRC there was a general consensus after the first couple of meets that we should run it on a neap tide weekend. Some of the boats felt they'd taken a bit of a dusting on the spring tides and strong breezes we had in the first year (or was it first 2 years?)

What about 8th or 23rd?

Have to say I really enjoyed the first trip (2003), but not everyone shared our enthusiasm. 2005 was neaps

The trip home was, without a doubt. F5/6 (IIRC) on the beam with a neap tide. A memorable passage indeed. Going out wasn't so great though with a f5 right up the chuffer all night!

8th is not good as RORC are racing to Cherbourg that weekend

22/23rd looks good - neaps and reasonable times at St Vaast

I need to check my logs - I have an idea that the 2003 crossing back was the fastest though some people might have found it a bit lumpy

22/23 rd sounds good to me. It would be nice to dine in the YC again, so missing the RORC meet would be sensible

without looking up tides, agree with 22/23 if it makes St Vaast realistic, and enables us to eat in the YC, which is definitely the best option.

The lock times are roughly 4-8 on Friday evening and 5-9:30 Sat am. So it seems possible to do a very early start on Friday morning - do Friday evening in St Vaast and have a leisurely trip round to Cherbourg on Saturday

Let's not get carried away with too much planning until later in the year. We should limit numbers to YC capacity (spot on last year), and accept that Cherbourg can only accommodate 65 lost souls without us having to find a grotty out-of-town eatery

2003 & 2005 were both 'good' crossing especially the return leg.....wild

Is there any particular reason for making it in September? The suggested date is pretty well spot on the Equinox. Earlier in the year would give us more hours of daylight.

in 03 we went in October, a tad cold and windy but not a big issue.

anything from May to August, too many people are off cruising elsewhere.
