It was today. Refitted the saildrive leg with its new seal. Scary stuff, will it let the water in...
Feel a certain smugness at having completed what would have been an £800 job done professionally, for the cost of the parts (£145 from Keypart) and £30 for an hour of an engineer's time (I was nervous of taking the leg itself apart to fit the seal so paid someone to do it while I watched...but it was simple anyway.)
All very do-able with reasonable DIY skills and a pal to help.
So long as it doesn't leak... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Plan was :

Sat - Strip Pipedream of equipment and electrics and get ready for the big clean up. Depending on weather/progress etc, B&B at Green Man.
Sun - Finish off above and go home.

Reality was :

Sat - Finshed all removals work, glorious weather but went to Green Man (early) and stayed there too. Fabulous dinner, beers, B&B.
Sun - Finished off a few bits and bobs then went for a sail for an hour - very little wind but more than pleasant enough. Got home and watched England thrash the French.

Too right it is /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Arrived at boat about noon on Saturday. Visited chandler for small paintbrush, Kurerust and keel primer.

Attempted to use angle grinder to attack rust patch on keel. Blew the marina electrics. Oops /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Visited chandlers to get them to reboot electrics.

Switched to drill and wire brush attachment. Removed rust which turned out to be not as bad as I thought it might be. Dolloped Kurerust where appropriate. Lightship for lunch.

Started to clean up prop. Noticed absence of anode on prop shaft. Wonder how long that hasn't been there? Oops /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Went all round the waterline wet and drying the boot top.

Started wet and drying the bow section of the hull. Got tired.
Decided to clean up and call it a day. Went to Lightship for St Patrick's Day do. Irish themed food, plus Irish quiz and Irish sing-a-long. Remarkably, still managed to get back up the ladder into BR.

Sunday morning sploshed keel primer over the previous kurerusted bits. More polishing of the prop and shaft. Another visit to the chandlers for more odds and ends.

Sawed up plank of plastic stuff to replace much ridiculed chipboard - yes that's right, chipboard - stern locker forward panel.

Had lunch. Felt very tired. Decided to spend what was left of afternoon sorting out what needed to go and what needed to stay. Took floorboards home so a bit can be shaved off so they don't fit quite so tightly.

Slept very well that night.

Awwww. I really liked your Weetabix locker lid.

Sounds like its coming together nicely, you seem to have more bounce in your tone.

I had help this weekend.... a certain 13 year old young lady worked her little heart out, and was responsible for a full shampoo clean and scrub of the entire topsides, and a full wax polish of one entire side..... she worked tirelessly from 08h00 to 17h00 Sat, and 09h00 to 15h00 Sun.... she was treated to a new pair of shoes of her choosing this evening for her uncomplaining efforts....

SWMBO and 10 year old young man also worked very hard for the record..... although aforementioned young man also deposited more antifoul on clothes and ground than on keel..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hoorah for Shotley....

I had planned for two weekends ashore as a contingency, but got her done in the first.... one quick phone call to Shotley, and splosh... she's back in.... even though they are v busy with the crane..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So... painted, polished and 'anoded', the season has started.... HOORAH!
