Scrub off by diver in Portsmouth

there was a firm advertising scrubs for 60quid at the boat show with a regular price of 90 - I think they were just called "divers" - anyone got a show guide? They were right by the red jet entrance opposite eberspacher.

I've my own kit and it's flippin hard work even in the sunshine, worth 60 quid anyday I reckon.

Portsmouth Divers

Can be contacted on 07939 533881 or info@rsdiversc.co.uk. Yes, was £60 inclusive.
I talked with them and they will come to anywhere in Portsmouth or even meet you anywhere in harbour and do the scrub. You do not need to be on board. Include anode change if necessary and prop clean. Sounds brilliant to me..

hose and mask?

I do not think so. Tell us how you do it? My boat is 33 ft with bilge keels and is on a tidal pontoon.

I have been using RS Divers this year and can recommend their service, although it cost me £270 for three scrubs, but very pleased with the service.

Mask, snorkel, neoprene diving hood, and a long pole with a paint scraper lashed to the end. The only bit I can't reach is under the keel (27' long keel).

Diver to clean boat

Wow 270 squid for 3 cleans that would make my eyes water. Yes I am known around the club as the one with the deep pockets and short arms but at that kind of money you could buy a nice wet suit and do it yourself. Yes I know prices are always higher in UK but $50 ie 25 squid is the going rate around here for a clean. One friend has a monthly arrangement. I do mine at least weekly to the extent of rubbing off much of the a/f by the end of summer. I just use a mask and snorkel but then water is not so cold.
Give it a go yourself olewill

I'm a recreational diver and always give my boat (36 ft, fin keel) a mid-season scrub including a wire bush around the prop.

To do the job reasonably well is pretty hard work. I would not dream of doing this for someone else for just £60. Sounds like slave labour (or a bargain, depending upon your viewpoint).

Snap his hand off!

I have a wet suit and a dry suit, what I don't have is time, I seem to be racing every weekend and working every hour in between. I did look at Andark's site and they wanted £140.

3 lifts and scrubs deal at Sealift2 for a 30 to 34 footer would be £310 inc VAT, slightly more money but you can have a look at the anodes and change them if required.

Of course you do have to take the boat to Sealift2 whereas your preferred method of using divers gets the job done while you are still at work giving you more time to sail for pure enjoyment.

Pros and cons for both methods I guess.

Think of how long it would take. Work out a reasonable hourly rate A garage would charge at lease £35 per hour plus for a spottu kid to do you a service) an air fill, travelling cost to get to your boat, insurance etc.

£60 seem silly money to me. Even £90 seems cheap.

We tried doing it once as a means of fundraising for the club. Bloody hard work, very unpleasant and not worth the dosh that we raised.

RS Divers called this morning, did a very thorough clean of the hull, thruster tunnels and trim tabs also checked the anodes.

Great value at £90 for 3 divers, 2 in the water and 1 in the safety boat.

Took the boat to Lymington this afternoon and the difference in performance from last time out was unbelievable!!

I would highly recommend them as they always give a prompt and helpful service and no I am not a shareholder in the company!
