According to the telegraph today the reason is that they closed down a warehouse in Devon and opened a new one in the West Mids & can't get enough staff to make it function. Does seem like massive upcock allround but sadly means Screwfix are just one of a string of companies who have had problems with their supply chain systems and processes this year (MFI, Electrocomponents and B&Q). Upto Friday last week I worked for a supplier to Screwfix & we were having big difficulties in getting delivery slots to take emd the stuff they'd ordered! Must admit to a wry grin about their situation given their 98.8%+ Complete and On Time requirements from their suppliers!

I placed an order at 7pm last night when the web site came back on and the goods arrived at 9:30 this morning. They are restricting order intake but very much honouring their next day delivery code. How many companies would keep the order intake going and just let you wait after receiving the cash. I admire the company. Incidentely I ordered decking screws which were five time cheaper than at the timber yard.

I have a lot of time for Screwfix. I have used them now for a number of years and they have always come up trumps. They are having a difficult time just now, having had to make a big change because they are a successful and growing company. The way that they are responding to their present problems is a good way. I have had 2 reliable responses to orders that I have placed with them during this period. IMHO they are a company worth supporting.

from a very happy customer.

The logistics of sending out large quantities of variable sized orders from a large inventory when your business is expanding rapidly are complicated and often result in failure of some kind. We should all remember how companies like this have revolutionised our shopping experiences.

I agree, I have enjoyed good service, was just a shame that it could fail due to staffing problems

Likewise have used them for years and have never let me down - every order delivered on-time and complete (even when ordered mid-afternoon previous day). Sure this is probably just a temp. hiccup. Prices are excellent too.

I bet there are loads of people on benefits in the area of their new warehouse. Makes me mad that a lot of companies can't get staff when there are 8million on benefits and not working.

Totally agree - we should stop the benefits and force people back to work. Would save T B liar and Co. a lot of money then we could keep our cheap diesel.!

Re:Send all the children down the mines at 12..

...no more costs of supporting an education system that doesn't work, and simultaneously increase the working population which is required to support the increasing pensionable age group, and start providing the coal for the coal powered power stations that are going to be required now that gas is running out and becoming too expensive!
