Scrapping a yacht

I would be interested to know your opinions on scrapping a yacht. It's just a thought at the moment, but I'm considering taking everything off and trying to re-coup my money by selling the nice Yanmar 1GM10, instruments, sails (two new laminate hank on headsails No.1 and No.2, New main, spares), cracking custom SBS twin axle trailer, assorted bits and pieces, ropes etc.

It's off an Achilles 24 that's got too much water damage in the coachroof to fix. 3 people have come and looked at it it but don't want the job, and I don't want a costly project seeing as it also needs a new mast that will cost more than I paid for the boat and trailer. There are so many Achilles out there, I thought I could be a spares supplier!

Any thoughts welcome, but if this concept is anathema to you, please don't just post to have a go.

Sounds like a sensible approach. A more dishonest person might simply strip the boat and then put the useless bits on ebay, but my view would be to take a chainsaw to the hull and take it in bits down to the dumpit. The mast boom and keels would go to the scrappie
 
I have an Elizabethan to get rid of and have agreed that the farmer who owns the land it is stored on can use the hull as a play house for his kids, plan is to stand the boat upright above the ground, once I have stripped out the metal etc. leaves me with a mast roller furler, boom and good sails if anyone is interested.

Shame the farmer who has my boat in a barn has grown up kids!

Does anyone know of somewhere that would like the hull as a 'project', you know, the kind of place that does charitable work with kids, or teaches boat repairs?

Just another option.
 
I was going to make an interesting treehouse for one of my client's kids, by hanging a boat high up in a tree. I thought it'd be a different take on the 'glamping pod' , but I don't think we've got a large enough tree for an Achilles!
 
Hi Julian. Yes, i have two almost brand new hank on laminate Jibs from Watson Sails (check out the prestige). I have a cracking main in almost new condition, )one small stain from what I can remember, but i'd have to dig it out from dry storage in my utility room.

What were you interested in exactly.
