scottish surveyors

I used Survey One a couple of years ago and found him very good. Jim McIlraith is an active sailor and well known and as far as I am aware respected.
 
Recently had my yacht surveyed by Team surveys 01698 826886 found them very clear in the desciption and condition of yacht.Also very willing to discuss any points arising
 
Having effectively damned Paul Jeffes on a public forum I think you have a duty to elaborate or withdraw your comment unresevedly!
My experience with him was very good
 
i would go along with jim mcilraith of survey one, renfrew.
i would also go along with the bat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
My survey was done by one of the Paul Jeffes team, the survey describes the engine as a 3 cylinder, it is in fact an MD22 which has 4 cylinders!

[/ QUOTE ]This sort of discrepancy does happen during surveys. Maybe one of the cylinders wasn't actually seen at the time of the survey? Quite often on my survey reports I have seen the wording "unable to see the bottom of....due to....". If the engine is badly situated in the engine compartment, maybe he couldn't see #4. You can't fault him for that; naturally he would assume that it was a three cylinder engine.

the port side access panel is removed, there is a BIG injector pump staring at you with 4 pipes coming off it. The injectors are also staring you in the face. I did not comment on the report, just stated what it said and what was the actuality.

Would you say " Lacking detail and containing inaccuracies" ?
 
I have used both Survey One, Jim McIlraith, (several times and) Paul Jeffes (Twice in person and once, one of his "team").

Based on my personal experience my preference would be to use Survey One if Jim was available. If not then Paul Jeffes himself (NOT one of his "team")

I trust jim McIlraith to the point where I flew him out to Greece to survey my boat.

He is very forthright and some find this a bit off putting however he's been building boats since he was a teenager, has raced successfully at international level and has designed boats in addition to repairing, restoring and surveying them. He cruises extensively and is a great source of advice on all aspects of owning and maintaining a boat.

Why is all this relevant to getting a good survey done? Depth of experience and and as he is around his customers all summer when he is sailing, he wants to be able to look you in the eye.

If Jim isn't available, then ...... wait until he is available.
Further up the west coast, Maitland Murray is good and Jim Abernethy is another that I'd go to.
