Scottish Jaunt with the Rib and Sib

Well had a phone call from a lovely lady at Loch Lomond and paid her £14 my two boats are now registered. After the initial confusion of the forms it was all rather painless. My stickers and some information paperwork is in the post apparently. Now just got to get the Midge repellant ☺️

Avon skin so soft is the local choice up here for it. Wasn’t too bad last year for some reason.

Actually the Loch Lomond camp site is one of the worst places for midges that I have been to in Scotland #. May be early enough in the season. But people I know who camped there doing the West Highland Way strongly recommended the midge nets that go right over your head - not elegant but effective. Once on the water with the boat planing you will be fine :)

#. Up with Cairnbaan in the Crinan Canal, which is another place we try to avoid stopping at overnight

All depends on the wind and weather just before I’d think, usually. Nice wee breeze keeps them away. The main islands can be bad if it’s dead calm and no fire to keep them away, to be fair.

Being from Balloch on Loch Lomond I don't find the midges too bad, now those on the Isle of Skye they are bad, camping there and seeing my yellow tent turn black being covered in midges.

Panning for gold on the Kildonan boy that was bad, just mention it to my wife and she shudders with the memory and the kids say they are never going there again even for all the gold in Scotland ;)

Well known that balloch men are immune to such things as the common midge…strathleven men too ?

Mini Ribbing on the loch the year before last…there are a few of us that go out a few trips over winter, just to keep things at bay, whilst the normal boats are out the water. That day out we went up around the islands and even most of the way up the endrick too. Amazing cheap day out. Used around 10 litres of fuel all day. Despite a few full throttle runs at a whopping 22 mph GPs…haha. Brilliant fun.F4040210-3C2B-4985-A446-87DA8D113598.jpg

One of the best places is Inchmoan, nice big sandy beach there and good swimming. Inchcailoch just off of Balmaha is another island we used to go to, lots of history and some nice walks over the island to the old cemetery on top of the hill

Many thanks for all this information. It also makes us more excited about our visit which is very welcome at this time of the year which can generally be a bit miserable

Got a large envelope yesterday with all the registration stickers in and a huge roll of sticky back plastic And loads of other items Now got to work out what to do with them. No wonder they charge £6 I must have that value in stuff:D
